I don't entirely agree with BarbaraEdinburgh about this hotel - I thought the rooms had great atmosphere, and a modernization would probably have destroyed that. I think she is also wrong about the hotel restaurant being a bit pricey - I ate both here and at the hotel next door (Hotel Stekl) and found the prices very similar. On my third night there I chose Hotel Hruba Skala's restaurant for a second visit - so that should tell you something. (I had the best bream I have ever tasted!) I do agree with her about the views and the surroundings - absolutely fabulous, with stunning walks through the rock formations and woods. Of the three budget hotels we stayed at on our trip (the others were in Pisek and Telc), this was the best in every respect. One minor complaint - unless they have changed their policy since September 2008, the hotel does not accept credit cards, so you have to carry either travellers' cheques or sufficient cash.
