comments in Lonely planet are misleading...this is not the best B and b in Costa Rica, even though the place is very nice. However it doesnt offer the best volcano views, the rooms are expensive if compared with other places in the area, and it lacks a bit of warmth and friendliness. Cabinas next door are much cheaper, more private,... more

The Nido del Collibri – or “Hummingbird’s Nest” – is an elegant and charming Bed and Breakfast in El Castillo, a small town about 30 minutes from La Fortuna – nearby the Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica. It is a small oasis even amidst a country that has already gained world acclamation through its rich rainforest, beautiful ocean vistas, and... more

A really recommended place to stay, at clear nights you can see the lava from your room, clean, big rooms, nice breakfast, very friendly owner, the lonely planet stated: Best B&B in Costa Rica, maybe this is a little nit exaggerated. more

My girlfriend and I visited this BB in Mid March and had a nice time. It was a bit confusing to get there, and it takes a bit to get back to Fortuna because of the dirt road, but I'd say it was worth it. It's a nice place, we got there really late the first night, but it wasn't... more

We booked this B&B based on the glowing recommendation the Lonely Planet gave. What a disappointment- the rooms are falling apart and cramped. There were roaches coming out of the ceiling tiles, and loads of spiders in the bathroom. Ellen is anything but gracious and welcoming. At best I would say she is dry and curt. One important fact that... more

Our visit to Costa Rica was highlighted by our stay at The Hummingbird Nest B&B and our visit with Ellen. In fact, this was our second visit because the place, and Ellen's hospitality, were so special. The road to El Castillo is part of the fun, like the bumps are ment to shake you into enjoying the adventure. It's great... more

The Hummingbird B&B was wonderful! The view was incredible and we got to see and hear different types of birds. The rooms were clean and had character. I liked how it only has two rooms so things can be more private or personal. The owner, Ellen, was so sweet and helpful. She suggested a wide range of things to do... more

The B&B is quaint and comfortable. The gardens are well kept and the bird watching and volcano watching amazing. My friends and I watched the rocks crash down the side of the volcano every night through the picture windows which faced the volcano in each of our rooms. The little village at the foot of the B&B is authentic with... more

We traveled by car on dirt roads to visit this B&B perched on a hill facing the volcano at the south end of Lake Arenal. It was about a half hour from the main road and you need to climb the hill with your bags, but what a great destination! There really are humming birds visiting the surrounding flowers all... more

The location of this B&B is wonderful. The views of the volcano, the abundance of flowers and hummingbirds along with the sounds of monkeys in the morning made my visit even more special. I was very pleased with the accommodations. more
