We spent 2 nights at Monaterio as part of a week long group bike ride. I'm a Californian, and so staying in the place where the monks were trained prior to leaving to build the missions is simply amazing. The grounds are beautiful, the pool is OK, it's clean and the rooms are spacious. Pillows weren't my style. Pools are... more

Stayed at the Monasterio de San Francisco for one night as a stopover from Cordoba to Ronda. Compact reception area, efficient check in. Room was indeed very large and the bed wasn't two matresses zipped together, however, the pillows were terrible, thin and lumpy. We explored the grounds and whilst there was a pool, found it sorely lacking and in... more

Traveled with a party of 7. 4 Adults and 3 kids (8 thru 13). We had 2 rooms - 2 adults and 2 kids in one and 2 adults and 1 kid in the other. Very big rooms. Pool was open and looked very nice; but we did not use it due to the coolness. Had breakfast buffet (10 euro... more

We stayed for 1 night in this hotel as part of our cycling country tour. It was our favourite small village hotel of the whole trip. The rooms are very clean & large, although the lighting isn't too bright. The hotel has been kept looking as it has for hundreds of years, but it doesn't feel tired. It has a... more

Enjoyed a very pleasant stay in this hotel. The pluses are that it has maintained its character as a past monastery with various antiques, frescos, furnishings, etc. Room was fine and fairly well appointed. Bar/lounge set in impressive room, lovely gardens / orchard, pool and courtyards. Lots of places to find a quiet corner to read a book or contemplate... more

Mixed feelings about this hotel. The building itself is charming. Tastefully restored without overdoing it. But, the "let-down" feeling was in the details. Big rooms (with no view, on the patio-side) with only one chair. The bathroom, nice and big, but clumsily done. (To turn the shower on, you have to reach underneath it and get wet with cold water... more

very well-kept and renovated where needed but preserving authenticity and charme. atmosphere is the hotel´s big atout. big bed with good mattress, spotless bathroom. the common rooms are very spacious and impressing, especially the stilish bar. it seems to be a member of a little "chain", the other is the casas de la juderia in seville. nice and friendly people... more

This was a gorgeous little haven in the sleepy town of Palma del Río, Spain. The walls of the monastery are whitewashed and beautiful. Everything was as clean as it could be. The restaurant served the best Bacalao al Pil-Pil I have ever tried. It was spicy and flavorful, but not overpowered by oiliness. It was delicious! The salads were... more

The hotel was originally a monastery which hosted many priests on their way to the New World, such as Junipero Serra, founder of the California missions. It's in Palma del Rio, a provincial town of 20,000 on a secondary road about 50 kilometers from Cordoba. This makes a nice off-the-beaten-path trip between Seville and Cordoba. It's a functioning small town... more
