Our extended family, which included my wife and myself, our two children 7 and 8, my wife's parents and my wife's brother and his girlfriend wanted to spend Christmas in Germany because of the family's German heritage. Coming from Australia we wanted snow. But we couldn't speak German. What do you do? Go to the Grunenberg which delivers, delivers and... more

Phill & Kate are the owners of this lovely house and a more helpful couple you could not find. Their knowledge of the surrounding area was very helpful in sending us on our daily excursions to explore the flower laden towns and villages and find the nice eating places. Menzenschwand is a lovely village with plenty of charm and very... more

We spent two wonderful New Year's eves at the Grunenberg and are sorry to be missing it this year. We were two family groups and the whole place was so welcoming. Our children gave a mixed Irish English Latin musical recital and loved the fireworks and as skiing beginners the nearby slopes were wonderful. In the evening time it was... more

The utter peace and quiet and beauty of the Black Forest was made even more wonderful because we stayed for 3 fantastic weeks at The Grunenberg. The hosts felt like old friends as soon as we arrived. The groceries which were purchased for us by our hosts were waiting in the fridge in the kitchen of our lovely suite. All... more

My partner and I Toured Europe on a motorcycle for 24 days. We booked a Studio for two nights. The room was fabulous, and the hotel is a good base for touring the lakes and towns of the Black Forest. Phil and Kate are wonderful hosts, who are very helpful if you want it, and also leave you to it,... more

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at the Grunenberg. Phil & Kate are the friendliest and most obliging of hosts and made us feel very welcome. They're doing a great job of renovating the property and our room was very comfortable - with an enormous bathroom! The location is stunning. We're keen walkers and were delighted to have access to... more

We arrived at The Grunenberg with our two children having driven from Guildford near London on the same day. We spent a wonderful 10 days there before continuing on to Kaprun in Austria. It is a long drive from England but perfectly "doable" and we got there in time for a welcome meal in one of the many excellent local... more

The walking direct from the hotel was great, - with plenty of different possibilites each day for both high and low level walks. We borrowed walking maps from the hotel, as well as information about bus and train times to link in with walks. Phill and Kate were very helpful with suggestions for places to visit, things to do etc.The... more
