The only negative I can say about our trip is that we only stayed for two nights and would have loved to spend more time at the Gastehaus Grunenberg. Not having experienced Germany before (except for driving through overnight) I was looking forward to the stay. The hosts Phil and Kate were the perfect hosts, calm and easy going and very helpful with directions. with the grunenberg i found a real treasure. a old guest house with the typical architecture of the black forest, beautifully restored. the typical dark and old-fashioned rustic oak style of the black-forest hotel rooms has been replaced by a bright and friendly country style integrating a lot of typical furnitures of the region. with international guests from all over... more

There is much to do and see in the Black Forest area but not all of it is in the guide books, hence the advantage of having English speaking hosts who are knowledgeable and genuinely helpful.
