Wow, never before have we had the opportunity to stay in a medievalcastle. The room with its opening windows looking out over the ravine to another fortification was authentically magical. We did @10km walk around the escarpment involving strolls through farm land to climbing to the castle walls and the outpost by the dam. The dinner was very good, not... More

We spent a month in Spain and tried most of the paradors, and this is the one we'd recommend most for pure fantasy and wonder. The drive up is breathtaking. On arrival, it is almost a little scary to walk around the parapets (not for those afraid of heights, to be sure.) The castle itself is cold and thick and... More

Leaving the East Coast of Spain around Valencia, we travelled through orange groves and major cities then small towns until we came upon open fields for miles around. We thought we caught a peek of the castle as we got closer yet it was nothing compared to when we actually saw it! You take a turn into this mile and... More

We were told that when driving to Alarcón, you would know when you were there. Wow, you most certainly do! What a sight, when you crest the hill and see the town of Alarcón, perched on the hill, with the imposing Marqués de Villena castle, sitting at the closest end of the picturesque town. The castle itself is lovely to... More

We stayed for one night here at the castle , it is absolutely stunning , but there isn't much else to do once you have done the walks outside and it was -7 when we visited which was obviously a negative , it's definitely worth a one night romantic stop .

I have always wanted to stay in a castle, so when we went to Barcelona and Madrid last April to visit my god daughter we stayed in this Parador. It is truly a castle and the village is amazing. We had dinner in the dining room, it was unusual and very nice. My husband had a port after dinner that... More

We stayed in this hotel for a weekend about 2 weeks ago and it was the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in. We stayed in one of the rooms in the tower section of the hotel, as it used to be an Arab Fortress, and it was the most beautiful room I have ever stayed in and I have... More

Like others I found it a bit disappointing. Beautiful but rather dull and very expensive. Showers and taps are ridiculous; couldn't use taps with wet hands and shower soaked the bathroom. Not a lot to do, bring books and walking boots

This was the second Parador on our trip and the most disappointing. It's a spectacular building in a wonderful position but we found it sadly lacking in "something". It was also by almost 60% the dearest. Our room was great, a lovely comfortable 4 poster bed, not in the tower (these cost even more) but to the side with small... More

We stayed 3 nights at this parador, as part of a one month tour of Spain by car. Arriving via the N111 and the CU-V-8033 roads we stopped at a mirdor overlooking the two gorges that surround the village of Alarcon. The parador looked magnificent. It was originally a Moorish Castle, enlarged and fortified after the reconquest. The setting is... More
