Just back from a couple of days at this charming inn, first immpressions very good, landlady Sarah is very welcoming and attentive when required, room in the courtyard was small clean and servicable, only downside was the green bathroom suite, however, understand that the bathrooms are going to be renewed shortly. Breakfast was wonderful, good choice and local produce. We... More

Lovely old pub, and the newish owners have created a nice ambience with good food, particularly the Posh Fish & Chips ! We haven't stayed so can't comment on the accommodation, but since Sarah & Mark took over we have eaten in the restaurant 4 times and each time the chef has turned out some pretty good dishes. Recommended.

As a local it is such a pleasure to once again have access to such high quality, well judged food (and beer!) almost on my doorstep. Nothing has ever been too much trouble for Sarah, Mark and their team, a warm welcome is guaranteed and there is always a roaring fire adding to the homely atmosphere. I look forward to... More

A lovely old inn in a rural village setting. We received a warm welcome from the Hosts & locals & had a lovely meal which was tasty & well presented in a charming candlelit restaurant with wood burning fire. Room comfortable & very clean.

have been a visitor to this beautiful inn for some years as a local and traveller. It seems that things are on the up. 6 of us went there for lunch not really expecting to much and came away having thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. A great Menu selection well priced and varied, well cooked and presented by the Kitchen team. smiley... More

We ate here on the way home from a weekend break in Oxford-its lovely food which I feel is a bit pricey but very tasty and well presented-friendly and helpful stay, wouldn't hesitate in going back. My only moan was the toilets could do with an update.

Having drunk at the pub a few times I thought it was time to trial the food which I can save was exquisite. The food was as good as it could possibly be and I'm confident in saying I will eat here again.

We've had a number of excellent meals at the White Horse since the new team have come in. Mark's meals are excellent in quality, particularly the fish items on the menu. My favourite is the smoked duck and my partner's the mussels. All the food is well sourced locally, tastes fresh and excellent value for money. Thoroughly recommended

Visited The White Horse recently for a meal with some friends & received a very friendly welcome.. New Management have been in situ for approx 2months. Food is certainly an improvement but lacking somewhat in presentation. However, they are charging 'Quality Restaurant' prices for fairly basic 'pub food'. (In fact this view was echoed by some people on an adjoining... More

It was with trepidation that we arrived at the white horse. I had booked it and then read the reviews. On arrival we found out the current incumbents had only been here for 7 weeks and they had done a certain amount of upgrading. The room was good and certainly warm enough. We didn't use the heater provided. We ate... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The White Horse is a quintessential 17th century English coaching inn set on the eastern side of the Cotswolds in the charming village of Duns Tew. With original flagstone floors, beams and real fires, The White Horse has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere making it the perfect place to enjoy a drink or meal with friends. Our south facing terrace is perfect on warm days. Well behaved children and dogs are welcome. The White Horse StoryAt the White Horse a warm welcome has greeted travellers for the last three hundred years. Little is known of the early history of this late 17th century hostelry, but there was certainly an Inn here. Inn keepers are recorded here up to the present day, with its own brew-house run by a Maltster, in the early 17th century. The brew-house is now the site of the gents' loo.Towards the end of 1981 The White Horse was remodelled with the addition of a dining room, but it was still a true Inn as there was stabling and fodder for a traveller's horse as well as Bed and Breakfast for the rider. In the last decade of the 17th century the White Horse was again developed to the arrangement seen now, with a new Kitchen, Dining Room and Bar, in a traditional style, and extended bedroom accommodation. ... more   less
