The Lion Inn Gwytherin in beautiful Wales is a great place to come and eat fresh food, drink good wine and real ale and recharge your batteries. Close to Snowdonia it is a great centre from which to explore North Wales. Dating from the 16th century, but the bedrooms take their design cues from the 21st century - Wales Great Little Places.

Popped in for food on a visit to North Wales Both of us went for the Chicken and ham pie which was amazing. Very friendly hosts and a warm welcome. There was a log fire lit, which we like. Nice pale ale finished the evening off. Couldn't fault it. Will visit again. Paul & Toria ( Caerffili )

I’m not sure where the negative reviews have come from or if the pub has changed owners since they were written? We had a lovely experience at the lion in. We stayed at the cottage next door literally about 20 steps away and visited the pub for dinner one night. The home made pizzas are delicious 🤤 the couple running the pub were both very friendly and chatty and even invited us back for the pub quiz the next day which unfortunately we could not make. The other customers were also super friendly. They had a range of board games which we sat by the fire and played and it was lovely! We would definitely go back 😊

A Cozy friendly pub. Excellent home cooked food. Good Vegetarian options. (those with special dietary needs catered for) . Great options for a lighter lunch (soup and cakes) or mix and match to have a yummy 3 course meal. Real fire and friendly, helpful hosts. Looking forward to our next visit already !

We went last Saturday with David's sister and brother in law and were delighted! The building is as beautiful as ever but the welcome was so warm for us and our 2 dogs we felt like old friends. The food was home cooked and delicious, no problem making me a vegan pizza and coleslaw and the others really enjoyed their soups, quiche and sandwiches.

I visited The Lion Inn with a couple of friends on the opening weekend and the new landlord was incredibly chatty and friendly and clearly enjoying his new venture. It's an idyllic setting, an oasis deep in the Welsh countryside. We'll definitely call in again.

It’s been a couple of weeks since my family and I spent a week at The Lion Inn, Gwytherin. Even after this 2 week gap, I’m still very angry and disappointed about how this turned out, all due to the host. The Lion Inn itself is in a beautiful and peaceful location, the bedrooms were all good, and the bar/living area had real character. We spent most of our time out and about exploring what North Wales had to offer, and it was only on the first day, where upon our return to Gwytherin, things went down hill in regards to our experience with our ‘host’. Despite being told we had the entire place to ourselves (which is what we payed a substantial fee for), the host thought it was acceptable for people to come in without our knowledge. We only found out because a door that was previously locked had been left wide open. When we asked the host if someone had entered while we were out. Instead of just saying ‘oh yes, really sorry someone dropped a parcel off for me but didn’t lock the door, won’t happen again’, the host became very defensive, wouldn’t admit she had done anything wrong and that 3 different people would have access to the house at anytime. None of this was explained to us before the visit, and nor would it have been had we not found this open door. The rest of the week went on without any more issues regarding this situation. The stay was fairly pleasant, kitchen was a little dirty in places and lacking the equipment you’d expect from what is advertised as an ‘industrial kitchen’. Our review of the stay reflected our experience fairly honestly. This is where the honesty stopped however, as we now come to the hosts review of my family and I. In her review of us, the host thought it acceptable to claim that when her son in law entered the property on the first full day of our stay (private let, he shouldn’t have gone in anyway), he could smell cigarette smoke and ‘found evidence of smoking’ within the property. THIS IS A LIE. The six of us who were there have never smoked, let alone inside a non smoking property. She then want on to make defamatory remarks about us all regarding the pandemic, such as we don’t wear masks(?) or use hand gel(?). Even if this was true (which it isn’t in the slightest), it bares no relevance to our stay and is just a spiteful, hateful comment aimed at my family because we didn’t write a glowing review. All in all, despite having a fantastic time in this beautiful part of the UK. I would absolutely NOT recommend The Lion Inn to anyone, especially if you value honesty and getting what you paid for.

We stayed for a week at this pub in Gwytherin. The village was nice and remote. The bedrooms were a good size. The pub itself is characterful. That's all the positive comments I have. The host "Karen" was supposed to have prepared the pub for us to be clean and tidy, as would be expected in any situation. This was far from the reality - the kitchen in particular was VERY DIRTY, missing equipment and for a "commercial kitchen" lacked basic amenities such as a freezer. The floors were sticky and dirty and generally not in for state for hosting guests. We accepted that the pub (particularly the kitchen) had been misrepresented to us and got over the disappointment to enjoy our holiday. However, on the second day of our stay, we came back to find that the pub, which was supposed to be "exclusive use" had been entered by a stranger. We only found out as one of the doors, which has previously been locked, had been opened and left unlocked. Firstly, we were naturally very concerned as whoever came in would have had access to our bedrooms and valuables. Secondly, we were very surprised that anyone had been able to access the pub as it was advertised as a private accomodation and we would have sole use of the pub. The host "Karen" had not told us that anyone would have access to the pub prior to our stay. We contacted "Karen" to ask whether anyone had been into the property. Imagine our surprise when "Karen" then proceeded to ask precisely which door (rather than reassure us) and tell us that approximately THREE people would access the pub. Madness! As an example, she mentioned, out of the blue, that her cat would starve if no one came in. She had never mentioned the cat before. Our problems with this Karen would continue after our stay had ended. After we gave her a VERY fair review on Airbnb, she came back with a review filled with lies and fabrications, accusing us of smoking in the property. I cannot emphasise enough how ridiculous this is. I am writing this review so that people should be aware of the type of character Karen is so they can make their own judgements as to whether to stay at the Lion Inn. I would not recommend staying here, nor would I recommend Karen as a host to anyone unless you are looking for a series of strange and upsetting events. If you are looking to be accused of things you haven't done then please do visit the Lion Inn.

My daughter booked this as a surprise holiday for myself and my husband. We really loved the location and our first impressions of the accommodation was good. Bedrooms and living area were lovely. When we went to use the kitchen, we found quite a few of pots and pans dirty, which I cleaned, and the floor was sticky and dirty too. On our second day, we went out and on our return discovered that someone had been in. We were worried and contacted the owner who's response was "which door was opened" rather than "oh I'm sorry" Apparently she had a parcel that needed picking up so her son in law had been in. We were then a bit bemused when she asked why we wouldn't want someone looking in the property. We then just asked that if someone needed to come in then please just let us know as we weren't expecting it. We then enjoyed the rest of our holiday. On our return we gave feedback on Airbnb being honest but polite. The owners response was to be extremely defamatory about my family stating we had smoked in the property, that we had refused her entry to her own home and said we weren't following covid guidelines. What unkind and untrue comments to make. I tried contacting her to discuss any issues but she refused to talk to me.

Fantastic accommodation in a beautiful part of the world . Immaculately clean and very dog friendly. Lots to do around the area, and a trip up Snowdonia is a must. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxed get away.

We booked this hotel for one night on the basis it was pet friendly. On arrival the landlady advised us she had dogs of her own and we could not use the accomodation booked. She offered us the " bothy" an old outbuilding which upon viewing was absolutely awful.Small, claustrophobic, smelling musty and stale, i would not have let our dog stay in there let alone ourselves. We said we would not stay and asked the landlady to cancel our booking, she got very aggressive and stormed off into the house leaving us stranded. We ended up having to pay a large cancellation fee. Located in the middle of nowhere, no shops, no pubs, no restaurants this is a place to avoid.
