My boyfriend and I spent one night at this hotel last weekend and absolutely loved it. It's a big country house with around 14 rooms, each beautifully decorated to suit the style of the house. The staff were extremely attentive, whenever we wanted anything they were ready to assist, but never seemed to be in the way. The view from... more

I have had the great fortune of staying at hotels costing ten times what the Sawrey House charges and left without feeling the sense of delight and absolutely satisifcation following my short stay here. The hotel is beautiful, the staff attentive, the location and views are post card beautiful. A+ experience and one day I would love to return to... more

We had not planned on staying overnight in Hawkshead - we thought we would keep going and look in Windemere or Ambleside for accomodation for the night - but then we saw Sawrey House and just turned in the Driveway. It's a National Trust owned house and is a delight to see and to stay and its just beside Hill... more

Just returned home after a three night stay at this lovely hotel. The hotel has just been re-acquired by the English National Trust and it's new owners, John and Kim are putting some hard work into getting this hotel back on it's feet. Ignore the previous reviews, these are based on an old tired hotel with owners that had lost... more

We have just returned from staying at The Sawrey House Hotel and after reading previous reviews did not know what to expect but we beleive in finding out for ourselves. We were greated with a very warm welcome and was upgraded to a bigger room which had just become vacant. We were given a large room with a fantastic view... more

Have stayed at this hotel twice now. Very comfortable and the food is absolutely delicious with beautiful views over Esthwaite water. The owners are more than willing to help make a celebration special such as cakes, flowers etc. Wonderful relaxing environment, you can truly unwind and a lovely part of the lakes. Our Favourite! more

The food at this hotel is good but choice is limited. We stayed in the four poster room with lake view and were very disappointed. The room was tatty with carpet edges not finished off properly and generally old and uncared for. The bathroom was extremely small and whirlpool bath too small for someone only 5'9". There was no extractor... more

I have to totally disagree with a previous reviewer, we have visited Sawrey House on a number of occassions and have always felt the place to be excellent value for money. The Half Board price of £75 pppn is excellent value. Having recently stayed elsewhere at £55 pppn and then been surcharge £28 for possibly the worst meal I have... more

Sawrey House would make a pleasant upmarket B&B if the prices were more reasonable. However with central heating that does not stay on overnight (freezing cold in the winter), chintzy unmodernized rooms and worn fabrics - a more reasonable price would be 50 UKP per room per night (rather than 110 UKP). However the beds were comfortable and the food... more
