We are back again in Puffin. Our Home from Home in the wondrous Orkney Islands. Sadly more and more folks are discovering this idyllic spot off the cost of Scotland. The cottage is a brilliant base, a very comfortable lounge an bedroom, with a well set-up kitchen, the new Quooker Tap, just adds to the Luxury. Instant Boiling Water on Tap for that Tea or Coffee. Caroline and Kevin are the perfect hosts and really want the Cottage to always justify it’s 5 * rating. It always does! Scrupulously clean and always well decorated. Local Knowledge from Caroline and Kevin is always on tap. Don’t miss the prepared Cold Lobster from the Orkney Fish co-operative in Stromness, with a great selection local fish. Nor the amazing beef from Dounby Butcher. We take some back home from both. A trip to Birsay Tea Rooms should always be booked The new owners of Hamnavoe restaurant have raised the food quality to wondrous levels. Then coming back to the cottage with the possibility of a log fired hot tub, or a log fire in the cottage is just plain sublime. Don’t forget the cafe at Sheila Fleet with amazing Jewellery a clear bonus!! There is little wonder we come back every year!! Long may it continue…..

We enjoy being out of the main town area so The Puffin Quoy offered just what we wanted, peace and quiet, privacy and friendly owners. The accommodation was spotless, well appointed, floor heating, small combustion fire place, snuggle up on the lounge with a book or watch tv, beautiful outlook for meals, comfortable bed, washing machine, dishwasher of you need one. Parking by the door. We could go for walks along the shoreline to Houton ferry terminal. Only 15mins drive to Stromness or Kirkwall. This was our second stay with Caroline and Kevin. Lovely hosts and always make us feel welcome.

We stayed in Puffin Quoy with our two dogs for one week. The cottage is beautifully presented and immaculate. It's so comfortable you can't help but relax and switch off. The views are also amazing and it's in a really good location to explore to explore the mainland. It's one of the best cottages we have ever stayed in and we've stayed in many over the years. Kevin and Caroline are great hosts - welcoming and helpful but give you plenty of privacy. We have already re-booked.

Beautifully set up and with full length windows looking out on Scapa Flow - such a cosy retreat after a day out and about. Caroline and Kevin are such welcoming and relaxed hosts too. It was hard to leave.

We stayed at the Granary Quoy and it exceeded expectations. The decor is perfect - carefully chosen lamps, statues, artwork, framed photos all work to make the cottage feel comfy and relaxing at the same time as being beautiful. The wonderful use of stone and fossils to build walls and floors complements the wooden furniture and leather sofas and woven blankets. The views from the windows are wonderful too - you can see the horizontal lines of the golden fields, blue sea and sky. At night the lights from the Houston ferry twinkle. Add a log fire to that and you have a idyllic scene. And then thee are the gardens! So sad that this cottage will no longer be rented out.

What an absolutely SUPERB stay. Where to start: Location excellent for exploring Island north and south. Views from Cottage lovely. Cottage itself warm and comfy and well kitted-out. The owners were charm and welcome personified: nothing was a bother. We have travelled MANY of the Scottish Isles over the last 10 years and this stay was easily one of the very best. PS: Plus: If you are a gardener - then the main house has an award winning garden which you are welcome to walk around.

We stayed here for a week, amazing and well designed Puffin Quoy. Sat by the window transfixed by the sea and the comings and going of the small ferry terminal opposite. Caroline was the perfect hostess, so welcoming and thoughtful. We loved it, her gardens are a gardeners heaven and Kevin has perfected beautiful dry stone walls and other dry stone art work. Caroline could not have been more helpful. Fabby area to stay, so much to do. Would really recommend this. An awful lot of thought has gone into the Puffin Quoy.

As an extended family of 6 we spent a relaxing and enjoyable week in the Old Granary Quoy. The accommodation quality is exceptional throughout, the location and views across Scapa Flow are perfect and the hosts very friendly. Nothing but praise for this self catering cottage. We will go back to Orkney and would definitely stay at the Old Granary Quoy again.

We stayed in Puffin Quoy, May 2018. Puffin Quoy is first rate, five star. Caroline and Kevin have created an oasis at Houton Quoy. The gardens, which they absolutely invite you to share are beautiful, and Puffin Quoy itself is a wonderful self-catering place to stay, with a really good bed (best sleep for months), a well-fitted kitchen with ample utensils, and a lounge/diner with two neat sofas, as well as a dining table with views over Scapa Flow to die for.
