We stayed at this Ryokan with our 4 month old baby and they could not have been more hospitable. We turned up half an hour late for dinner as we had the time wrong, but they were extremely welcoming and showed us to our room before taking us down for dinner. Embarrassingly our baby vomited on a cushion in the... More

We really enjoyed the hospitality in this ryokan. Transportation was provided from the station and up the mountain to the Snow Monkey Park the next morning. Our luggage was also delivered to the station while were viewing the snow monkeys, making the return journey very easy. Our room was traditional Japanese with tatami, low table and yukatas provided. Wifi was... More

This is my 2nd visit to this ryokan with my family. I came back to this hotel because the owners, Tomomi and Keiko are very friendly and hospitable people and the room rates are very reasonable. They will come and pick you up from Yudanaka Station if you arrive before 5.30pm and call them at Nagano Station to inform them... More

This was my first experience in a Ryokan, so I'm not comparing against other similar experiences but rather against what made me comfortable and what did not. First the good news. Keiko the co-owner made us feel very welcome and patiently explained everything and answered our questions. She's one of those rare people who exude warmth, charm and authority all... More

This lovely Ryokan is in a 200 yr old village called Shibu Onsen. It is between Yudanaka and the Snow Monkey park. To get here from Tokyo, catch the Shinkansen (Bullet train) from Tokyo station to Nagano. Then exit Nagano station turn right and head down stairs to the local train line to catch the Electric Railways train to Yudanaka... More

We had an enjoyable stay at this ryokan. We were serve with hot tea and traditional sweets upon arriving at the ryokan. The owner, Tomomi San offers to drive us to the snow monkey park after check-in. Apart from the owner, the staff of the ryokan were as friendly and helpful too. And this ryokan serve a very nice delicious... More

We spent one night in December at this Ryokan (Japanese inn). This place is very charmingly beautiful. You feel like you are in on a secret staying here. Our tatami room was clean , large and relaxing. Dinner, breakfast and Onsen downstairs are included. The food is traditional and delicious!!! Do not miss "Onsen egg" -the egg that is slowly... More

I booked easily over email and we arrived in Yudanaka and took a short bus ride (5 - 10 mins) to Shibu Onsen as there was no car available for a pickup. The tourist office at the station was super helpful by calling the guesthouse for us and giving us lots of maps. After arriving at the guesthouse (2 min... More

I returned for my second visit to Senshinkan Matsuya in Shibuonsen with 5 friends. Keiko our landlady was just as beautiful and welcoming as ever. I brought my friends here as they wished for a traditional Japanese experience with a bonus of visiting the 'Snow Monkey Park'. We enjoyed superb breakfasts and dinners during our 4 night stay. Keiko drove... More

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Senshinkan Matsuya. We were taken such good care of. Their onsen was a dream and the opportunity to walk from onsen to onsen in the snow was wonderful. The most delicious vegan breakfast was prepared for us in the morning. We highly recommend Senshinkan Matsuya. If we have the opportunity to return, we... More
