Shirakawa-go is flooded with elderly tourists during the day, but around 4 pm once they all leave you can really relax and feel the vibe of the village. I just loved Magoemon in Shirakawa-go. My partner and I stayed at this lovely Gassho-Zukuri, and to be totally honest it was the highlight of my trip to Japan. I stayed one night here with my parents. The farmhouse was not full so we got two connecting rooms overlooking the river. It was beautiful and so soothing to listen to the flowing water.
