This is THE place to stay in Naoshima. We stayed in the "Park" hotel and loved our room (felt Swedish-minimalist trendy but very comfortable). We had dinner at the Terrace Restaurant connect to the hotel and it was divine. Breakfast the next morning was in the cafe at the Benesse House Museum Cafe. We chose the Japanese breakfast option and... More

Let's face it, if you are going to Naoshima, and you love architecture and you love art, then what choice do you have - you must stay at the Oval at Benesse House. This is Tadao Ando from1995 (Benesse House itself is Ando from 1992) and how many times will you be able to spend the night in an Ando... More

We stayed in one of the rooms at the Benesse house museum. It had a fabulous view of the Inland Sea, and was very comfortable once we got them to turn the heating down from the preset 27 degrees ! Beautifully designed by Jaoanese architect Tadao Ando who also designed the other galleries on the island. It's an expensive place... More

Yeah, I'm in agreement with other recent visitors' glowing descriptions of this place, and its in my favourite architectural style, but we found it surprisingly noisy at night, courtesy of the busy shipping lane that we overlooked - it was a bit like hearing the M6 in the distance..(!) But my main complaint is that there's no opportunity to chat... More

Getting to Naoshima from Kyoto was pleasant, but not straightforward. Once on the island, we immediately understood that we were going to enjoy our stay there, and that 1 day there would not be sufficient. The hotel far exceded our expectations. We stayed in the park wing, with lovely contemporary design, a nice modern art collection and stunning views on... More

Went during Golden Week where the website warned that it would be "confusion days" (direct Japanese translation = super crowded). Surprisingly, the crowd wasn't that bad and all the museums had systematic crowd control so waiting time was at max 15min. Anyway, about Benesse House....what an awesome experience! We stayed at Oval which made us feel a tad superior to... More

We have been staying at Benesse house for 2 nights. There is a shuttle bus service taking you from the ferry port to the hotel. Reception was very good. Our luggage was being taken care of, the agent was speaking moderate English and the tour to the room was helpful and explanatory. The hotel is perfect for lovers of art... More

Spent a day and night "inhaling" the beautiful Ando architecture and the site's phenomenal art collection. the rooms are designed pristinely with a balance of light wood and glass that softens the polished concrete. Fabulous breakfast buffet and dinner at the French restaurant. The only challenge is the very hefty price....

Three of the art museums on the island of Naoshima are located in the private compound operated by Benesse. Staying at Benesse House is expensive, but for those after a very special experience it may be worth the extra dollars. Benesse House has four accommodation areas - Park, Beach, Museum and Oval. We stayed in Park, the cheaper option, but... More

My wife and I went for the first time in July 2010. We stayed at the Park. Very happy with the decor and style of the room. Rooms in Japan are small, but very clean. We had a nice balcony view of the garden (where various works are displayed). The park has some cool works in the basement floor or... More
