At first look, especially on their homepage, Hotel du Mont Collon looks like the ideal location in the beautiful valley of Arolla. The village itself is worth a trip as it is in the very heart of the Valais Alps of Switzerland. It is amidst a breathtaking mountain scenery.
After staying there for a week on a winter vacation I can summerize the experience as 'could have been better' in any regard: The vintage building could be entirely renovated but isn't, the menus presented within the half-pension could be real french cuisine but lack preparation by a professional, the service could be up to the history of the place (more than a century) but is basically improvised, the facility could be intact but lacks even proper heating in January at 2000m altitude! Each day there was another unsolved problem and the proprietors seem to consider the guests to be responsible for finding solutions.
