Upon arrival in S.A.d. Valle Fertil, a sleepy town in what feels like no man’s land, we had our first nice surprise when the owners of Cerro del Valle already welcomed us at the bus station. The hotel is just right across, about 50 meters walk.

There is a rustic feel to the rooms with brick walls, chunky wooden bed and furniture and a small stove. The bathroom is spotless and has a shower with plenty of hot water. In total there are 6 rooms which are entered from the garden at the back of the building (all ground floor). In the middle stands an old olive tree.

What really stands out are the wonderful owners Marisa and Mario. Breakfast was brought to our room in the mornings (warm bread!) and in the evenings Mario would light the fire in the stove to keep us warm. Throughout our stay they offered complimentary tea with pastries, which we gladly accepted and had lovely chats with them (but this never felt intrusive).
