What a fabulous 3 days skiing we had the first weekend in January. We flew from Leeds /Bradford to Bergamo/Milan. Hired a car to drive to Champoluc. we were advised to order snow chains. Every year we have flown to Bergamo and driven to a different resort. we have never had to use snow chains to Pinzolo/ Madonna or any other places. Thank goodness we had got them.
Were told it was a 2 hour drive at the most maybe if you are Italian and have special snow tyres on! Best airport is Turin which is under 2hrs. It was a good 3 hours and we needed to put the snow chains on as we went up the mountain. Easy to do as long as you read the instructions first!
Drove though perfect falling snow to Hotel Champoluc. They put the car in the garage under the hotel out of the snow which was great when we left for the airport in the early hours in falling snow.
The hotel is right next to the ski lift and you can can ski down to the hotel.
