How often do you get the chance to relax in the drawing room and dining room where Lady Gregory entertained Yeats, George Bernard Shaw and Augustus John? I loved the history of this white house perched on the water. For those who enjoy antiques, books, paintings and collections this place has scores of things to look at and enjoy. It... More

I can understand, reading previous reviews, why this place wouldn't suit everybody. If what you want is a grade A hotel with wi-fi and multi tv channels, this is not the place for you. What is offered here is a stay in a period house in an absolutely exquisite setting in the company of friendly and pleasant hosts. We were... More

Mt Vernon is not everyone's idea of a guest house. It is a very different experience from your average. It is mercifully free of television, radio, piped music and noise generally. The house is decorated with great eclectic flair - in terms of period, ethnicity etc. Books abound (real ones - not he shelf-fillers that fill most places). The drawing... More

My wife and I stayed at Mount Vernon for two nights last June during our two weeks trip through Western Ireland. This was the most expensive place we stayed at and the most unwelcoming. We were informed that we could not check in until after 4:00- which was a bit late; but in fact when we knocked on the door... More

My husband and I made a weekend trip from London to Shannon on RyanAir and stayed two nights at Mount Vernon. We'd rented a car at Shannon airport and were very happy we had the TomTom app, because it's a bit tricky to find. That said, it's a very nice little place smack in the middle of The Burren, and... Mount Vernon was cleverly recommended to us by my best friend. We stayed there for 6 days and it was magic as promised. Mark is a wonderful host. The rooms are beautiful, clean, airy and full of light. We did not dine at Mount Vernon and there are plenty of options to dine around which are less expensive than the... More

After thirty odd years of work and vacation in the Burren region, this was my first stay in Mount Vernon. My teenage daughter and myself arrived shortly before midnight after a long drive from West Cork, and were received with a glowing open fire and a tumbler of Irish whiskey. This is July, and the open fire didn't come uncalled... More

We stayed 3 nights with Mark and Ally in 2007 and I never got around to writing a review at the time. It was the highlight of our trip. Our room opened onto their walled garden, and the sitting room lined with books, with windows on Galway Bay, and a welcoming fire was delightful. They are terrific cooks and wonderful... More

Mount Vernon was recommended by a previous B&B owner. What a delightful surprise as we drove up to find such a lovely treasure by the sea! To walk in and smell the most beautiful aroma of yellow roses, a crackling fire and a glass of wine...I felt like I was home! The home is beautifully furnished and immaculate. We were... More

Mount Vernon was recommended to us by previous hosts & we weren't disappointed. Ally & Mark have restored the house immaculately & were charming & helpful with our future plans. It is a very tranquil location by the water & the Burren. Ally organised us a walk with a guide on the Burren which was fantastic despite the sleeting rain!... More
