This place is simply stunning! Surrounded by nature, peaceful and with the most beautiful views. The accommodation is in a beautiful Cortijo, the apartments are spacious and spotless. If you are looking for authentic Spain away from all the tourists yet close to the coast and lake Vinuela, then I would highly recommend.

A spectacular place to stay! Beautiful farmhouse with breathtaking views of the Andalusian mountains. The apartment is spotless and so very clean which made us feel very safe. We couldn’t have asked for better! Almu made us feel so welcome and we’re counting the days until we can return!

The most beautiful destination to visit, so relaxing with such amazing views. Almudena was incredibly helpful, attending to all our needs and answering our questions at all given times! We would recommend if you stay here to hire a car, however we walked to a local bar some nights and taxis are very accessible should you choose not to hire a car as we did however be prepared to spend a while in taxis and spending the money. Public transport can be used to access the venue also. Great stay!!

We were looking for somewhere away from it all and this place was perfect. A restored cortijo with lovely apartments, all with fireplaces, every night we enjoyed a real fire. Bliss. Stock up at the supermarket in Torre del Mar and then it's a 30 minute drive up into the mountains via Periana. Wonderfully secluded, but with all mod cons including wifi, a lovely pool and well equipped kitchen. Almu was incredibly helpful

A peaceful and sunny location in quiet countryside. We stayed for one night on a cycling trip and were allocated a ground floor apartment with bedroom, bathroom sitting room, small kitchen and its own patio surrounded by flowers. Having enjoyed a swim in the delightful pool with fabulous mountain views, we were served a simple but carefully prepared dinner of ensalada mixta, tortilla, fruit and local wine in the evening sunshine. Breakfast too was simple locally sourced food and equally good. Almo (who speaks excellent English) and her mother (who put our Spanish to the test) both made us very welcome. Though our visit was brief on this occasion, given more time we would have been very happy to stay for much longer.

Cortijo Las Monjas has 6 rooms some with mountain view and some with lake view. Apartments are well equipped with all you need in kithcen inclusive local produced olive oil. The owner is fantastic helpfull and friendly. Quite often you hav the pool for yourself beacuse the most who pick up this hotel seem to be driving around in the beautiful environments during the day. If you are seeking for romantic hideaway ask the owner for a quite room, she will surely arrange one for you. Some of the rooms walls seems to be too thin making you feel you are sleeping in your neibhbours bathroom.

We just spent a week in Puerto Banus and headed here for a couple of nights. I wish I had spent the whole time at Cortijo Las Monjas the best place I have ever stayed. Yes it was self catering and yes it was rustic but beautiful with a great swimming pool and wonderful views. We will definitely be back, it was just paradise. Also Almo the lady who runs the place was so helpful, all the info you needed on the area and beyond.

Just had a 5 day break at Cortijo Las Monjas. Our 2 room apartment was perfect for 3 adults - a nice bedroom and good sized living area with sofa bed. The mountain views are stunning and there is a lovely pool. I would have expected to pay much more for such nice accommodation in this setting. Almudena was very welcoming and went out of her way to make us welcome and to help us enjoy our break.

Amazing welcome from Almudena. The apartment was exactly as we expected, but the view was even more spectacular than we had hoped. During the day you have views over the valley, olive groves and the blue sky. As you watch the sun set, fantastic colours transform the mountains from green to purple to shades of black. Then the stars. Oh my God. We saw the milky way, planets, stars. Spectacular. The swimming pool takes full advantage of these spectacular views. It is beautifully landscaped with a planted rockery waterfall at the deep end and easy steps in at the shallow end. There are sun loungers and umbrellas for all-day sunbathing as you soak up the views. All is enclosed by hedges and a gate. The land around is farmed by the family - they make money from the oliver groves (usually harvested between September and March). The views are best from the front apartments. We stayed in 'Atroe' which is probably the best. A really spacious 1 bed space. Access is up via steps at the front of the old farm buildings overlooking the threshing floor and valley. There's a roomy terrace with table, two chairs and discreet clothes rack where we spent most of our time drinking in views. Old country style double doors lead into the kitchen/dining/living area. Reasonably sized with small kitchenette area, dining table with 4 chairs, double sofa, log burner, sofa & satellite TV. The bedroom is down a couple of steps with two armchairs, coffee table, double wardrobe and sets of drawers and plenty of room for a cot or child's bed. There are a couple of steps up to spacious shower room. All windows have shutters and insect nets so you can take advantage of the cooling winds in the evening. You are left alone to enjoy yourself here, but occasionally, you'll bump into one of the family with an offer of home-baked cake or cactus fruit from the garden (delicious, but don't pick them yourself - they are dangerous to handle unless you know what you're doing!) There are 6 apartments developed from the old farm buildings. It's a couple of kilometers to the nearest village. But a local baker, a fisherman and the local store all deliver direct several times a week. We cooked some amazing clams and prawns for lunch one day. There are local restaurants within a short drive at Mondron, Periana - and our favourite was Los Pirineos in Alfarnatejo. Hearty meat dishes at reasonable prices. We did local area trips (less than an hour's drive) to Competa (ace), Comares (stunning views), Riogordo (local food shopping), Periana (good views to La Vinuela reservoir). Further away but well worth the drive are family beach resort of Nerja (good market on Tuesday morning on outskirts of town), the quiet beach at Benejarafe (nr Rincon de la Victoria on outskirts of Malaga), Granada's Alhambra (awesome, 'nuff said), and an overnight trip to Cordoba - which was really lovely (see my review of Hotel Lola there). This is a FANTASTIC base from which to see a good slice of the Malaga region of Andalusia. The apartments are exceptional value and the hospitality was spot-on for us. Rustic country with a warm welcome. All the facilities you need without too many frills. And a view to die for. One of our best holidays ever. Suzanne and Mark, September 2011
