We stopped at the Giritale for one night as part of a 3 day tour. The room was clean and comfortable but dated. The food was poor but as it was for only one night this was not a great issue. The views from the hotel over the surrounding countryside were spectacular and made our stop there worthwhile. All in... more

This is a fabulous hotel with a wonderful sight of Giritale lake. Foods also very delicious and the staff is very friendly. Don't forget to go a safari to Minneriya or Kawdulla national park. Its an amazing tour... Enjoyed a lot with my family and I'm very determined to visit there again... more

We stayed here one night after visiting the ancient sites of Polonnaruwa. The hotel entrance and communal areas were really quite smart, with a fantastic panoramic view of Giritale Tank. There was also a nice swimming pool and sun deck to one side of the complex. The room was a bit of let down. When we walked in it smelt... more

We too were taken here by our tour guide, Upul, proprietor of Sri Lanka Tailored Tours. This was our first night n Sri Lanka as we had only flown into Colombo that morning. The tour guide is to be reccommended as this, as well as all other hotels which he arranged for us to stay in were excellent. As far... more

Yes a really lovely view. Food (especially buffet breakfast) very good. Nice pool.......................................BUT, area plauged by fearless monkeys. Partner's clothes stolen whilst swimming!! Staff reaction? Shoulder shrug!! Apart from that.........................a very good hotel!! more

The hotel was booked for me by my tour guide Upul. I was here again on holiday alone travelling with Sri Lanka Tailored Tours and on this trip was doing the cultural side of the country. Upul recommended the Giritale Hotel to be our base for the cultural triangle, Polonoruwa, Sigirya and Anuradapura. I stayed here for 3 nights while... more

The Giritale is situated on a hillside overlooking Lake Giritale and the jungle opposite - what a fantastic location. It is painted in dull greens to blend in with the surrounding countryside. The rooms are clean and comfortable - if only they had a balcony to sit on and admire the magnificent view. The gardens surrounding the hotel held a... more

Given previous experience in staying in the Polonararuwa area we chose the Giritale Hotel this time on the basis of reviews. We left with a really mixed bag of feelings after one night in late May. On the plus side it is painted in a dull green which blends in with the hillside surrounding and it is relatively understated. The... more

Favourite hotel of all the the ones we stayed in in Sri Lanka. It doesn't have all the trimmings of the beach front hotels but is simple and honest. The staff were fantastic (as they were n most Sri Lankan hotels), food was good, and the rooms comfortable. Having cocktails while watching the sun set over lake Giritale was fantastic.... more

This hotel was the nicest we stayed at in Sri Lanka, amazing views from the deck, very good service and clean rooms with AC and hot water, though a bit musty. I would stay there again and it is the best hotel in town. A good base to see the cities of the cultural triangle. Polonaruwa, Sigiriya, Dambulla caves, and... more
