This lodge is the perfect place for a group retreat. Gathering around the cozy indoor copper fire circle is charming. The homemade local food is hearty, and the keepers of the lodge are friendly and very helpful. This place is not suited for upscale hotel travelers, but rather "campers at heart" who don't mind tending a fire. The loft room... More

This was by far the most interesting place we stayed in Ireland. My wife found this place on the internet and, although it was out of the way, we stayed here because it looked really different. And it was. We missed the communal dinner and the group aspect (arriving as a group of Spanish tourists left but before a group... More

Very run down! Seems like a place that was funky and cool years ago but has just been let go since! The owner was really rude and didn't seem interest in our custom at all. We were the only people staying there apart from about 15 spanish men who appeared to be working there feeding animals and working outside.

This was a nice place to stay - but be prepared! It is out in the country, maybe 20-30 minute drive from Sligo, so you'll spend some time on narrow country roads! It's a beautiful location, though, and very close to some amazing ancient historical sights and some great walks, if that's what you're into. I got some great advice... More

If you are expecting a plush experience the Gyreum Ecolodge is not what you're looking for. However, if you're the earthy, easy going type...this is your spot. They whole place has amazing outdoor views, very quiet and an awesome vibe. The owner is very chill and lets you have the run of the place. The owner is also very knowledgeable... More

A few friends and myself stayed at the Gyreum for two weeks in late October, early November. We had the time of our lives! Colum, the owner and operator, is easily one of the most interesting and easy people to talk to. We had free-roam of the entire place, and it was wonderful. With endless beauty and sights to see... In both April and November this year, I attended weekend-long yoga retreats at the Gyreum. The first was so good that I decided to organise my own with a friend again in November. We brought fifteen guests and had the whole space to ourselves over the weekend for shared meals, a great big kitchen to cook in, the cosy reading... More

I've only visited about 10 hostels in Ireland, so it's not fair to appoint the Gyreum as the/my top one hostel of Ireland, but can't help doing that as - even though i don't know the other few hundreds - I can't imagine a more wonderful place to stay for exploring Ireland and I didn't have the desire to proof... A group of us stayed in the Gyreum independent hostel after the Leonard Concert this year. It was hard to beat - cheap, friendly and the weekend we were there a substantial healthy breakfast was available for just 7 euro. If you like an informal, friendly environment away from the maddening crowds, in amazingly beautiful surroundings, this is the place... More

We found the ecolodge dirty and grotty and just couldn't recommend it. And it was not cheap. We paid €30 per person to share a 6 bed dorm. As hostel prices go this is very expensive. Our room had 4 beds and 2 bunks and a sink. This sink was filthy, loads of toothpaste, etc left behind by previous inhabitants.... More
