I booked this bed and breakfast based on the large number of excellent reviews on Tripadvisor and I have to say that my experience is vastly different from others on this site. However, having said that, there are many positives. Firstly the cleanliness was second to none, pristinely clean, especially the bedrooms and bathrooms. The bathrooms were well appointed, modern... We had the pleasure of spending a couple of nights here over Easter. From the moment we arrived we knew we had made a good choice, a fabulous building set in impressive grounds. We were greeted by Vanessa, a lovely caring lady, and served with a welcoming cuppa and biccies. Our ground floor room, number 3 was just fantastic. Occupying... More

Everything about this venue is first class! We were greeted by the proprietor, Vanessa, whose warm, caring personality made all of our party welcome. Attention to detail, superb food, information about where ingredients are sourced locally...amazing! The perfect location for my informal reception and formal 60th Birthday Dinner.

Spent a night here for a friends 60th. The lady of the house, Vanessa was a great host supplying delicious afternoon tea on our arrival, canapes and a great evening meal, (husband made the gravy....!) the Cheese board was great. Breakfast was as many have said superb, with a request of fried bread supplied..... Would definatly recomend Thornton Lodge.

We arrived after a disastrous journey through the floods. Vanessa was out with the dog when we got there but arrived a few minutes later and apologised profusely and made us very welcome with a cup of tea and biscuits in our room. Now, as I am disabled we chose room two which is on the ground floor with a... More

thank you so much for your lovely review. I am sorry that I wasn't at the house when you arrived but given that because you mistakenly thought the house was affected by flooding you stayed in Hawes your first night, and I had asked for you to call me if you wanted to arrive other than between 3-4pm next day,... Thornton Lodge's location is idyllic, really secluded and quiet - the road to/from it is predominantly single track, so doesn't get much traffic, although it is a bit of an experience driving along it!! We had a couple of nights in a King-size room and not only the bed is king-size - and extremely comfortable - but the room and... More

Thank you so much for taking time to post such a lovely review. I had a guest stay with me at the weekend who was puzzled as to the location of our public rooms that hadn't been renovated. When I advised him that all of our public rooms had been restored in 2009 he pointed me to your review and... More

We stayed one night here after a wedding party and can honestly say nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely warm welcome and our room was spotless with a lovely en suite bathroom. Breakfast in the morning was equally as nice! Shame we couldnt stay longer! Vanessa, what a great job you are doing!

For the past ten years my wife & myself have spent one week each year in the Dales. We have stayed with Vanessa at Thornton Lodge on at least five occassions now - and have always received an excellent service. Having just returned from another visit, once again I would throughly recommend a short break if you seek tranquility in... More
