My wife and I were invited to return to the Great Western Arms in April and we are glad that we did. We stayed in the Luxury Double Room (Room One) again and found it to be very different to our previous stay in January. The bathroom has been completely refurbished and a new, larger than average, shower cubicle installed.... More

On our long drive from west Gloucestershire to Suffolk we stopped after 2 hours for a break on Good Friday.Walking in here there was a lovely log fire and beautiful flowers on the bar .The place was so welcoming that we resolved to call here for a meal on our drive back on Monday. The place was busy ,fresh flowers were... My wife and I stayed two nights 25/26 January 2013 in the 'Luxury Double Room' (Room 1) which was very cold. The ensuite wet-room was freezing with an inadequate electric towel rail as the only heat source. The tiles in the shower area were very dirty and discoloured. The ceiling was covered in black mould that was clinging to the... More

We stayed a night at the bed and breakfast in August, actually I don't think they should call it bed and 'breakfast' a packet of coco pops in the room with milk (not covered) in a small fridge, is not what I would call a continental breakfast! The room was ok, smelt of damp but the bathroom was full of... More

We were not expecting a 5 star hotel for the price but this was a real let down. As mentioned below, the continental breakfast was cereal and juice served in the room not even in a room! There was a big fridge next to my bed with the orange juice and milk in it which buzzed really loudly next to... More

The Great Western is a lovely pub and is dog friendly. We stayed 2 nights. The room was clean but really small and basic. Nothing like the photo on this site. The bathroom was poorly designed and it was difficult to get into the shower. We were told it was a continental breakfast in the room which turned out to... More

An impromptu stay led us to the GWA. With a dog it isn't always easy to find decent (non travelodge!) places to stay but this was an amazing find! The dog was welcomed, the room was clean, tidy and modern and the bar and restaurant superb. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the food simply fantastic! The double... More

Apparently, before GWA changed hands it had a poor reputation but the place has been turned around admirably by the current hosts. All four of the evening meals we have had were of a good standard and service has been pretty efficient, polite and friendly. The standard of cooking is also sound and the menu solid. Our party of 6... More
