This is a beautiful property and should be a lovely place to stay. Unfortunately it wasn't. We stayed overnight in the cottage. Very nice building. Well equipped, cosy and comfortable. We opted for dinner with the hosts as we had travelled all day on a Sunday and dinner out can be a bit hard to find. That was our mistake,... More

My wife and I have recently returned from France and stayed the first night (July 20) at the Chateau before driving on to Brittany. We had booked several months previously and opted for the dinner thinking it would be a perfect way to start our French holiday by having this with the French owners. Having seen the reviews in May... More

We use the chateau as a first stop or last evening when we are touring France. Our latest visit was in July 2012. As usual, we found our hosts absolutely charming and friendly. Aperitifs are served in the drawing room, very civilised and a choice of maison creations. At this stage you get to know a little about your fellow... More

We stayed in June 2012 in the gite for 10 people. It was formerly a stables and was clean but basic. Very spacious living area and you could have dined around 20 people around the large table. One bathroom had a small tub in it, the other had a dribbly shower. The beds were hard and the linen thin and... More

I don't really know where to start, so perhaps I'll share how I was told off for turning up 9 minutes before our agreed check in time. We were then shown to the stable block where our 'family suite' was located. It has not been decorated for decades. Think Faulty Towers in its hey day: blankets, thin towels, trickle shower... More

We booked 5 nights at Chateau des Alleux where we were allocated a room in the stable block, presumably part of the ‘stable suite’, with a small kitchenette The room was dull, not very comfortable, the couch sagged, the small TV was behind the couch so you had to sit on the bed to see it and the shower cubicle... Although close to the motorway noise was not an issue here. Surrounded by fields and grazing animals it made for a peaceful rural retreat. Our hosts were charming and hospitable. They spoke good English but in mixed company French was preferred. Some guest rooms were in the chateau but ours was in the delightfully converted stables. Dinner, proceeded by homemade... More
