Stayed in Thavorn Grand for 2 nights in a deluxe room for 750 baht/night which was a good deal (you can get a standard for 500baht). Hotel was good - friendly reception (booked all my taxis for me), clean room, internet for 50baht an hour in the lobby (there's internet cafe's opposite the hotel for 25baht though). They have two 'bubble' lifts which you can go to the 15th/16th floor and look over the whole of Phuket town and also the bay.
The best thing about Thavorn Grand was its LOCATION. Right in the town centre surrounded by shopping districts and food centres. I was there because I wanted to experience the local Thai culture rather than Patong which is tourist concentrated. Out of the hotel, turning right from the main doors and just behind the block, a morning market is just a minute away.
