Moorfield Lodge was a pleasant surprise. We stayed only for one night but enjoyed it greatly. The room was well appointed and the views from the window were spectacular. We enjoyed chatting with Ginny and took her suggestion to go to a local pub named "The Bridge." We had a great meal and enjoyed the local musical talent.

The next morning we had a delicious breakfast before heading out on our next adventure. I highly recommend this B & B.

My husband and I recently spent a night in Moorfield Lodge for our 1st wedding Anniversairy and we really didn't want to leave! The lodge deserves it's 5* rating even due to its gorgeous rural setting with large lawns, stretching driveway, trees and surrounding mountains. Our host Lin was warm, welcoming and very friendly who put us at ease straight away and ensured that if there was anything we may require just to let her know. Upon signing in Lin greeted us with her home baked scones with tea which were delicious! Our room was the spa suite at the Lodge and we were not disappointed. With the living area, wide screen television, cream carpets, large windows, beautiful white linens and of course the luxurious jacuzzi bath for two it was the perfect choice for a romantic night away. Everything was to perfection and we could not have asked for a more perfect wedding anniversairy!
Breakfast was a real treat due to Lin's exquisite talent for cooking. I would recommend that everyone tries the home made Granola and Fruit crepe- absolutely delicious! My husband had the full Irish Breakfast which Lin cooked to his preference and he said it was one of the nicest he's had in a long time. We were also given a Congrautlations card from Lin and her Husband which we found to be a lovely touch to the end of a perfect stay.

We can't thank Moorfield Lodge enough for making our special day exactly what we wanted it to be and can't wait to come back again!

Ah Roisin, what a fantastic review, and most appreciated. Glad you liked my breakfasts - I love cooking and it is a pleasure to cook for people like you ! Please come back again, you do so much for my ego! lol The lawns are looking gorgeous with all the sunshine and a little bit of rain here and there; the views of Loch Swilly ever changing and so stunning. The Spa suite is great but so is the Bayview which is just as big, with the Classic suite being our smallest but it still has the same quality finishes and linen. We look forward to having you back too, so please don't leave it too long. There is so much to see in this area, you need at least 3 nights! Take care till then. :)

My wife and I have just returned from a weeks stay at Moorfield Lodge. Without a doubt it has to have been the best Hotel or B and B we have ever stayed in.
From the moment we arrived to the day we left we were treated to 5 star attention.
The room was perfect with the most magnificent view.Breakfast was varied and superb.
But no review would be complete without mentioning our hosts Lin and Bobby. They went out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect, from advising where to go and where to eat,to sharing some of their time with us, it was very much appreciated. We would have no hesitation in recommending Moorfield Lodge as a first class venue.

Hello Tony, thank you for your comprehensive review - it was indeed our pleasure having you stay with us - you are wonderful folk and we so hope you will return soon. We take such pleasure in assisting our guests with their daily outings, where to go, where to eat and what to do, whilst in this beautiful part of the country. Our Spa Suite and Bayview are really huge and comfortable, whilst the Classic is smaller and comfortable but more suited for a short stopover. This is a perfect place to make your base whilst enjoying all that the North West and ANtrim Coast have to offer - settle in and take day tours to see Giants Causeway, Slieve League Cliffs and Glenveagh National Park - it's all here and close enough to drive each day through the beautiful countryside to a new and wonderful destination. Take care, both of you, and thanx for enriching our lives with your wonderful company. All the best, from Lin and Bobby and the "kids".

We stayed here during the summer and did not enjoy it. Right from the start we BOTH had to sign a weaver with credit card details on arrival, in case we broke anything!! The host was always talking and we could not relax. Wardrobe was ill fitting and kept falling apart. I could not have tomatoes with my breakfast as the host had eaten them!! 3 times I was told the water in the room was free (it would want to be at the price). Not my idea of relaxation.

Ah, how sad to read this review. We are comforted that we are doing it mostly right through our other wonderful reviews, but we take comments like this seriously and will attempt to address them. It is normal to provide credit card details when checking in to an hotel, to the receptionist on arrival even if you are paying cash. These details are held until after you check out, and is the security the hotel keeps in case they need to use them. This is practiced the world over. Why do you think B&B's are any different? In fact, B&B's are more trusting and vulnerable as they let "strangers" into their homes providing keys to the front door, bedroom door as well as a remote for the gates. Surely some sort of protection is in order for the B&B owner. I find your necessity to complain about this on a public forum most disconcerting. Would you let a stranger into your home, provide them with keys to all your doors and gates, and not ask for some sort of security? Our B&B is constructed so that guests are completely independent from our family home, coming and going without having to enter any part of our family area ensuring privacy for both guests and ourselves. Most of our guests ask for our input with things to do, places to go, and where to dine - this being a part of the business which I particularly enjoy, however it is your choice to interact with us or not. A friendly host/hostess being defined as talking too much is hurtful. The drawers needed a small screw tightened and this could easily have been executed immediately had you brought it to our attention, however, on check out when we noticed this, is was repaired. We apologise for causing you such angst.

As I was working in Donegal today I logged into tripadvisor to find a nice place to stay. Moorhall Lodge came up no 1 so I phoned to check availability. I spoke to a lady called Lynne who after checking her schedule told me that she had availability for a single room at a cost of €110 for the night. I asked her was there any room for negotiation on the price as I would be in Donegal on a regular basis and she agreed that we would do a deal when I arrived. She also explained that they 'do not take credit cards and accepted cash only"- which I thought was a little strange.

As Ireland had been playing an international WC qualifier I'd decided to pop into the local hotel on my way to Moorhall Lodge to watch the match and also get my dinner while I was there. At half time I recieved a call from Lynne who asked me if I still itended to stay. I'd explained that I'd popped in to have dinner and watch the soccer match. Her reply was that I was no longer welcome as I had told her I would be there in 40 minutes, and an hour had since passed. She politely recommended that I stay in the Silver Tassie Hotel- which is where I was eating my evening meal. I was gobsmacked- as was a fellow customer at the bar who had heard the whole conversation.

I have never been so rudely spoken to on the telephone in the way that Lynne spoke to me this evening. Perhaps if she reviewed her 'cash only' policy then I'd have saved time going to the pass machine to withdraw cash for her convenience. I cannot understand how a place like this has 5 stars (without setting foot in the door) unless stars are given out for being rude, impatient and obnoxious.

I will not be returning to Moorfield Lodge- regardless of how often I have to return to Donegal.

Hello, I have been expecting this review from you, so it does not come unexpectedly. I wish to put the facts on record, for those reading this. You called me at approx. 7pm to book a room for the night and when asked you said you would be arriving within "40 minutes" which was perfectly fine with me - as I was unwell and intended on an early night. You would have been aware that this was important as I had vascillated as to whether I should take your booking in the first place, making a point of asking how long before you would check in. I therefore expected you before 8pm. At approx. 8.45pm, I called your mobile to ask if you had changed your mind (which does happen on occasion) to which you replied that you had stopped off to watch the "match" - your review says that I called you during half time which would suggest that you may have been even further delayed before checking in! I suggested you might like to stay at the local hotel, being more convenient for you, seeing you were already there watching the match. You seemed peeved and put the phone down on me....This was said in a very friendly manner. I am sorry you felt this was rude, but I wonder why you did not think it courteous to call to tell me you would not be arriving till much later? You then called me back at 10.30 pm waking me up, to berate me, questioning me on why I do not take credit cards, etc and you told me you were on Trip Advisor, searching for any other negative comments from other guests, over the years. Sadly you found one! I wish to apologise for offending you, and wish also to make it quite clear that I spoke in a friendly and courteous manner to you at all times, including when you called me back later on during the night to question me further, putting the phone down on me yet again. I also had a witness here who heard these conversations and was amazed that you were offended in any way as he felt I had been most courteous in both calls, despite being woken up for a "grilling". (Our website clearly states that check-in after 8pm needs to be arranged with us.) Maybe we could chat over a cup of coffee when next you are up here? My treat. Take care in the meantime. With Respect, Lin.

Beautiful house, be prepared for removing your shoes to put on a pair of newly washed house slippers - carpets WHITE...Should this be a B&B as there are only 3 guest rooms and my husband and I felt like unwanted guests in a home where help to pay the mortgage was needed so a B&B seemed like a good plan?!
We stayed in the spa suite (Jacuzzi tub), where you had to ask in the morning to get the water heated for the afternoon, Privacy or Romance was out the window!! Lin, hostess inquired into where you were constantly, and checked your rooms' bin to see if you had put the right info into the bars 'honesty book'-?! Breakfast was amazing and served individually to each room, in the dining rm...Lynn was very friendly and talked all the way through - lol, privacy out the window...Also expect to be politely told to be out of your rooms by lunchtime and nicely to return from 5pm onwards???
We wanted a quiet, romantic break as was advertised & awarded as 1 of Irelands Most
Romantic B&B's - Certainly wasn't our experience...
Don't waste your money on this overpriced B&B....

Phew! I think it is I that needs the Valium! After dissecting this review I see that the guest loved the house, the location, and the breakfasts. I cannot work out if this guest had a problem with wearing complimentary slippers, or the fact that we have luxurious white carpets in the rooms? The comment made on a public forum regarding a mortgage on our property is nobody's business and inaccurate to say the least, as we purchased this property specifically for the purpose of creating a B&B. It seems that there was simply a clash of personality which resulted in a determination to destroy the years of hard work to achieve the status and rating we have achieved thus far. I have also read her one other review which is also as damning - why not discuss any issues with the B&B owner at the time if you have a problem, which is so often easily sorted out, as apposed to taking refuge behind the computer to make such destructive comments so many weeks later. I am friendly, as you pointed out, yes, and I take great delight in assisting guests with places to go and places to eat, and therefore inquire as to the experience at breakfast the following morning - hence my being too chatty maybe? Our house is such that guests come and go through a separate entrance, only interacting with us at breakfast or if they choose to, by entering our section of the house - how then could I possibly be constantly asking as to what they are doing? I service the rooms daily, after the guests have gone out for the day - how on earth would they have a comment about me inspecting their bin in their room when they are out? We have an " honesty" bar for the use and convenience of the guests, and it is their choice whether or not they avail of this facility - I would only ask on their departure if they did or not - I have not felt I had guests' whom I had to question, at any time. I am sorry that you felt this was not for you, but I will continue to do my best in offering a wonderful place to stay in a gorgeous country location, with superb breakfasts, which most of our guests seem to have found exceptional. I wish you only the best in your future holidays, and hope that this explanation offers acceptable answers to anyone reading this.

Having stayed at the Moorfield Lodge over the weekend, we were extremely impressed with the standard of the accommodation. The property itself is beautiful and has an excellent location. The rooms are comfortable and luxurious. Lin and Bobby are wonderful hosts and are very kind, warm and welcoming. The food is superb, in particular, the 'legendary Crepes' with fresh fruit! There were lovely little touches like heated scone, fresh cream and jam on arrival, Evian bottled water and Toblerone are provided in your room. If you are looking for something a little bit extra, then this is the place. However, if you are looking to completely relax then this place might be a little stressful as there are rules about wearing slippers (not shoes) on the white carpet in the bedroom and living areas. Also, there is an expectation to be chatty and cheerful which is not everyone's idea of relaxation. Overall I would say that this is a wonderful place to stay and you won't be disappointed - one of Donegal's hidden gems!

For the benefit of those reading this review we would like to mention that we supply complimentary slippers to our guests and hope that the idea of "kicking off your shoes " brings a feeling of relaxation rather than stress. We have found that our other guests have enjoyed this aspect of their visit. We look forward to welcoming you when next you are in the area, even if it is only for home-baked scones and a cuppa tea! All the best to both of you.

Myself and my partner (aged 25 & 29) stayed here in the Classic Suite for two nights in July as part of a short trip to Donegal and then onto Portrush for a few nights. I can honestly say that this was the best decision we made for our entire trip!

From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel like we were good friends who'd simply been away for a while and returned! Lin was an incredible hostess! Tea and scones on arrival (what a lovely touch!). And breakfast was a true occasion, you simply can't get better than this. Everything is home-made and fresh that morning. My partner fell in love with her granola and we've been trying to re-create it ever since. I highly recommend her smoked salmon and scrambled egg! If only every morning could taste like this. The room was luxurious, clean and very comfortable. Lin was brilliant at recommending local places to eat and kindly booked our table too. She clearly has good relationships with the local pubs/restaurants and we were very well looked after because of this. Even getting to sample other foods from the menu while we waited (Ferry Gate in Ramelton).

Thank you again Lin for making our little holiday so special!

Thank you Vicky, it was indeed my pleasure having you both to stay and to share our wonderful part of Ireland. How encouraging to hear it was the best part of your trip! I am looking out at the views of Loch Swilly as I type this, and the azure blue water is just gorgeous with the sun shining on the houses across the Swilly - you would have loved it today! We found another little cafe in Rathmullan which we visited last night, and look forward to introducing it to our guests too, but yes, we do have some wonderful culinary treasures right here on our doorstep. We look forward to having you back again, sooner rather than later. Take care of yourselves. All the best, Lin and Bobby.

Although we didn't have much time at the Lodge, Lin was an excellent host. The bed was that comfortable we slept in which would spoil most breakfasts but not this one, still delicious! The smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were a particular highlight. Thanks for a lovely stay.
