We spent 12 days at this elegant, extremely reasonably priced, comfortable hotel. The hosts, Jeanne and her son Chris made us very welcome and took time out of their busy day to advise us of the best places to visit. This is a family run hotel and we were treated like family The weather was freezing but our room was... More

This was our second visit and although it was not as good as our first, we had to have our room changed they did so without any problems. There was less choice at breakfast. Jean and the staff are very helpful and we would probably go again.

Stayed for 1 night as we were attending a function at the golf club whose attached hotel was full We paid an extra tenner for the 4 poster room which housed a super-king sized bed- very comfy. The room also had a bathroom with a corner bath/shower and two windows with views over the golf course. The room was very... More

My husband and I celebrated our wedding in August 2011 at The Arches, Brotton. The Birkbeck family, namely Chris, Linda and the marvellous Jean and staff created and hosted the most wonderful wedding reception for us. They allowed us to decorate the wedding reception room with our own decorations, creating a wonderful setting but the rest was down to them.... More

I have never felt inclined to write a review on any of the many UK and overseas establishments we have stayed in, but I just wanted to feedback what an excellent place this is. Mrs Birkbeck couldn't have been more welcoming, the 2 rooms we had (numbers 2 and 6) were furnished to a high standard and spotlessly clean. Breakfast... More

You won't stubble across this little gem by mistake! Hidden away behind a golf course is this charming, family run oasis. The welcome is warm and genuine, the accommodation is well presented, we had the standard double room, and there are other options available. Breakfast had a choice of Continental (included) or Cooked for an extra £5 pp. The selection... More

Very friendly, clean, comfortable welcoming hotel. The owners family run it themselves and the staff are very helpful. Only drawback is that you need a car, it is quite some distance into the village, through the golf course. The North Yorkshire Moors and Seaside are beautiful and worth the visit.

Delightful hotel set in the depths of golfing country. Excellent service and really terrific friendly staff. Very quiet and peaceful even during the day Thoroughly recommend to anyone who likes the 'quiet' life and would definately stay there again

Although pleasant but isolated location, this hotel had a slightly unused deserted feel about it. We never saw another guest during our two night stay. No atmosphere at all. Continental breakfast not up to much, all items were left out all day uncovered in a conservatory on a very hot day. Bread the following morning had mould on it and... More

The Arches was a little bit of a surprise. You reach it by driving through a housing estate, and then through a golf course, past the driving range. But it is rather unique. We stayed in what are called the stables ( outside rooms separate to the main building) They have their own seating areas with a table undercover for... More
