We camped at Blackwoods for two nights in September. Because we were after labor day, it was pretty empty. However, if the campground had been full, we would have been a little bit crowded by adjacent sites. The bathrooms were clean, lighted at night, and there were sinks with running water for washing dishes. No showers, but they were just... more

We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 day stay at Blackwoods. It was convenient to all park activities and to Bar Harbor. The campground is rustic and quiet with beautiful pine trees. The restrooms have running water. There are no electric hook ups or showers, but there is a shower facility just outside of the campgrounds entrance that was very user friendly.... more

This campground was perfectly fine, but we will probably check out nearby private campgrounds on our next trip to Acadia. The pros: beautiful setting, convenient location in the heart of the park, clean restrooms. The cons: sites are VERY close together, showers & laundry are a short drive away (and laundry is minimal), no dishwashing sink (but of course a... more

My husband and I booked two nights at Blackwoods Campground. I didn't know what to expect because it was my first time camping. The site was nice. Each one has a picnic table and a fire pit. The bathrooms are close to the campsite and are clean. The sites are fairly private with trees in between them. It was nice... more

My husband and I stayed at Blackwoods Campground in Acadia National Park and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Although the campground was large, it never got too noisey for us. The campground is extremely busy (we went through four different neighbors in the adjoining site), so if you plan on staying here, make reservations well in advance. The sites are nice,... more

Stayed 8 nights here with my wife and son, and had a nice time. We were comfortable enough that we could have stayed another month in our little tent. Bathrooms are large and very clean, no bugs! No showers, but 1 mile outside of the campground there is pay showers($1.50 for 4 minutes, plenty of time and always very hot... more

What a gem...just minutes from the coast, including Thunder Hole is this wonderful clean, spotless camp site. Well organized, quiet & clean. We so enjoyed lighting a fire at the end of our day of exploring the island and listening to the crackle of the fire. Restrooms were just a stroll away. Awesome! more

Other reviewers have covered the basics: relative privacy of the sites, flush toilets but no soap, you can hear the ocean in the still of the night, etc. I only have a couple of points to add. (1) Because Mt Desert Island is essentially a hunk of rock, it is no surprise that camping in Blackwoods is, in some ways,... more

We booked our reservation through reservations dot gov. It does not guarantee a spot, just the fact that you would have a camp site when you get there. It was the 4th of July weekend and we got there around 7:00 PM. Check in is a breeze. I had a yearly pass, and I requested Loop - A because it... more

I have to say that Blackwoods was one of the cleanest campgrounds I have come across. We chose a single tent site (A105) in Loop A for our 4 night stay in Acadia. From our arrival at the front booth (very helpful, friendly staff), to our site (immaculate for a campsite) we could not have been happier. The site accomodated... more
