One of the best adventures of my life was doing a solo hike to the bottom of Grand Canyon and camping at Bright Angel Campground at the age of 18. I had always wanted to return and decided to take my wife and 15-year-old twins there. Since we didn't have enough backpacking equipment, we decided to stay at Phantom Ranch.... more

If you don't want to carry camping gear, this may be the only way to go, but it's a great way to go! We stayed in the dorm, which was clean and comfortable. There's ac! Plenty of hot water. In terms of the rest/sleep accommodations, no complaints. Contrary to what someone else posted here, I made my reservations all over... more

IF you go to the Grand Canyon and IF you are able to hike the whole thing....DO NOT MISS this lifetime experience. Not every one is cut out for the riggors of the hike, but if you are it is A MUST. We have travelled all over the world and been back to the Canyon 3 times. It is one... more

OK, so it's the only hotel in the neighborhood, but considering that the neighborhood is at the bottom of the Grand Canyon that's high praise! My wife and I took a two night mule trip to Phantom Ranch. It was a package deal with lodging and meals at Phantom Ranch provided. Phantom Ranch is rustic, but comfortable. As others have... more

We hiked down with a group of 8, 4 adults and kids ages 4, 8,9 and 11. We walked down S. kaibab, leaving around 10am and arriving @ Phantom Ranch @ 4pm. Slow and steady with no problems. The accomodations are spartan, clean and tight. We moved our reservations from the dorms to a cabin on the morning of our... more

We have stayed at Phantom Ranch before and were happy with the actual accommodations. It truly is magical. The aspect that we have a problem with is the way you have to make reservations through Xanterra Parks & Resorts to stay here--specifically group reservations...and also the customer service and follow-up service that they practice. We had a group reservation for... more

Phantom Ranch, along with all Grand Canyon lodging can only be booked through Xanterra. I called the first week of Oct 08 to book a cabin for Oct 09 and was told that all the cabins and dorm beds were booked through the end of Oct '09 and had been booked since noon on Oct 1st '08! I asked about... more

This marks the fourth year in a row I have journeyed to Phantom Ranch. I believe, if my math and memory are correct, that I have stayed there nine times and visited many more times since 1979. It will always hold a spot in my heart as one of my favorite places to visit, even if it is just for... more

A wonderful oasis at the bottom the Grand Canyon! Hikers' dorms sleep 10 (5 bunk beds). Each dorm has separate shower, toilet, and sink. Bedding is nice, although pillows are quite flat. You are provided bedding (sheets, blanket, pillow), and one towel. Soap is provded. Air conditioning (air blowing through falling cold water) keeps the dorms comfortable, even when it... more

This is an amazing place at the bottom of the canyon. I can't tell how happy we were to see it when we finished our hike to the bottom. The cabins are rustic but clean. The bunk beds were great. The food is overpriced but they do have to transport all of it in by mule or on foot. We... more
