Volcano house in the volcano national park is in a time warp and knows that you have few other choices. We stayed for two nights and had a deluxe crater room and a "regular" room. This meant that for a family they were unable to place us in the same building. There are two buildings, the older and the newer... more

Stay here if you can get a caldera view room; we woke up to a beautiful early morning view of the smoldering volcano. But that's it. The rooms are plain and in need of some freshening. Everything was clean and the staff were courteous and efficient, but the hotel is nothing fancy at all. If you can't get a room... more

The service at the main hotel was prompt and appropriate, but nothing out of the ordinary. The room we stayed in was in the smaller lodge across the parking lot, not in the main hotel. The entry was nice with a big fireplace (which wasn't going), but the room was very small, very musty/moldy smelling. The furniture was definitely dated... more

This might be the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The rooms were small and filthy. The furniture was broken down. Even the shower head fell off when I tried to turn it on. This hotel MIGHT have been worth $30. more

Keep in mind when you book at the Volcano House that it's about nature and the awesome view (and the friendly people) not amenities! We were on our honeymoon and splurged for the king room with a view of the crater. We only stayed one night but were completely happy with our stay. The furnishings are outdated, it's very rustic.... more

Fantastic location in the volcano national park. The rooms were small and outdated. The views are just as good from the bar and the restaurant. Also we had no HOT water in the morning to shower. When I let the front desk know, there response was less than helpful. I would say you are better off staying somewhere else... My... more

We stayed in a Crater View room. Our room smelled like pee and the windows were left open to ventilate the smell. The room had one small space heater that did not warm up the cold room. Mold was visible on the floor trim surround the floor. The bathtub had a black streak across it. The bed and linens were... more

I've stayed here since I first started visiting the Big Island as a teenager and it's still about the same. A little run down, but it's in such a nice setting that it is always worth it. We always stay in the Ohia Wing (a little cottage separate from the main hotel). You don't have a crater view from there,... more

We stayed at Volcano House for one night in March whiole touring Volcano National Park on the Big Island. We stayed at the Ohia building which was seperate from the main hotel. The place had amazing ambience. The whole structure is quite old but well maintained with period furniture and decor. There was a main room with a big fireplace... more

We have chosen the Volcano House because of its location. We had one of the deluxe rooms, with crater view. The view was great. Altough the hotel looks a bit old fashioned. We had quite cold temperatures and due to that the rooms were also a bit cold. The breakfast in the hotel you can forget about. Better you go... more
