Booked in the high season at high season prices and saw 2 bears. As a fisher folk this is probably a wonderful place to visit and stay with its basic accommodation, services and meals and nearby river. As a tourist hoping to sight bears and paying top dollars we were a little disappointed. While the location is excellent and the... More

First let me state that my review is from the perspective of a fly fisherman. Furthermore, let me say that the bears at Brooks ARE indeed wonderful to observe, especially in the seasonal time period where the salmon are making their way up the Brooks Falls. I have also never spent the night at the Brooks Lodge, however I have... More

We decided to visit Katmai in September to avoid bigger crowds in July. The last stop of our first Alaska vacation was beyond incredible.!!! We spent 4 nights five days in a cabin that was clean and basic. Perfectly fit the environment we were in. 2 sets of bunks allowed us to use upper bunks for clothes and photo gear.... More

We booked a 2 night stay on Jan 3, 2011 for July 13-15, 2012 to make sure we got a cabin. So book early if you want to go in July. We had been there before for a day trip. Seeing the bears up close is so exciting and awesome. We spent alot of time on the platforms watching the... More

We stayed at Brooks Lodge for 3 nights and enjoyed the bear viewing very much. The accommodations at Brooks "Lodge" were really not lodge-like at all but rather small cabins with 4 bunk beads, a small shower, and a toilet in an attached room. There was a sign behind the toilet in our cabin. It said to avoid flushing the... More

Mosquitoes, rain, storms, brown bears catching salmon just feet away from you, bad food, cold showers, flooded camp ground, flesh eating flies, tourists, bumpy plane rides, long flights, turbulence, cold coffee, beautiful brown bears up close, rude staff, bad service, expensive. Don't come here ever. The fewer people that come here the better. ;-) Stay away, go to a zoo,... More

I camped in katmai for 3 nights and used brooks lodge for food/drinks and shopping. I am a pure vegetarian and the only option the lodge could provide was mere salad bar, this even after requesting the chef and the management we ended up eating $18 dollar salad for lunch and $22 for dinner. The only time they will take... More

My wife and I enjoy wildlife and this trip we wanted to see bears. We did our research and found the best possible experience would be at Brooks Camp when then salmon return to spawn. We stayed one night in a cabin (#27). Our expectations were more than met. We had multiple bear sightings. Nothing up close. But others did.... More

The accommodations are well described elsewhere so I'll skip that other than to say they are really expensive for what you get. However, if I was going to Brooks Falls, I would definitely stay overnight and most likely for at least 2 nights. Here's why: It takes 2 flights to get there from Anchorage. With perfect weather that is a... More

Planned staying well over 2 years in advance as part of our trip to alaska, it was worth the wait! You don't go here for luxury but for the bears and also the scenery. the accomodation is rustic log cabins with 2 sets of bunks, a toilet cubicle and shower with a curtain to separate them from the bunks.Although not...
