AFTER READING SOME OF THE REVIEWS WAS A LITTLE APPREHENSIVE ABOUT THE HOTEL- NEEDN'T HAVE BOTHERED- WE CHECKED IN- FRIENDLY HELPFUL STAFF, ASKED ABOUT THE A LA CARTE RESTAURANTS AND WERE GUIDED TO THE BOOKING DESK- BOOKED OUR ALLOCATION FOR THE FORTNIGHT THERE AND THEN. WENT TO THE ROOM - SPOTLESS - NO FLUFF UNDER THE BED, MINI BAR STOCKED,... more

Let me begin by saying, I have travelled to many, many hotels for both leisure and for work and can be very picky. But after adding up all of the pros and cons of the Occidental, I would have to say, I was pleased. I was in room 2309 in a room directly overlooking the pool. Yes, hardly ocean view,... more

I worked with a travel agent to plan a vacation for my family and was assured that this would be a great place to stay. She was very, very wrong. The property was in horrible shape. I was surprised to find that this "4 star" hotel had several holes in the walls, exposed wires and chipped and broken furniture. Our... more

Have just returned from a 14 night stay at the Occidental with my wife. We stayed at the Riu Palace, Aruba last year and would have returned there until we discovered that our travel agent rated this hotel higher and, in fact, described the hotel as luxurious and breathtaking. I can only conclude that the person who wrote this description... more

First of all, Thank you to all our fellow TA members who shared your reviews and a special thanks to those of you who answered our e-mails. We never expected to stay at an All-inclusive in Aruba, but the Occidental Grand is affordable and allows you to go out to dinner without feeling obligated to stay on the premises. We... more

When we initially arrived at the hotel we went to make a reservation for dinner. Because the restaurant we wanted was booked, one of the guest services people hooked us up with the Royal Club. We had top shelf booze and some of the best food I have had in my life. It was very exclusive and classy meal. However... more

This was supposed to be my dream vacation for my birthday with my husband alone for the first time in many years. It turned out to be the worst hotel that we have ever stayed in. The food was horrible in the buffet restaurant which is the only one that you did not need a reservation for, the service was... more

Stayed for 5 days, 4 nights on the "poor" side of the hotel. We didn't have towels, shampoo, conditioner, or soap. At least we brought the last three from home. We asked for towels, were told "10 minutes," and they never came. The next day we borrowed towels from a friend that was also staying on the "rich" side. We... more

I'll start with I travel quite a bit for business, and have stayed at all types of hotels. For a leisure, all inclusive hotel, I thought the Occidental was great! We planned an extended family vacation for 12 of us, and chose the Occidental because of everything we thought it would have - all-inclusive, proximity to beaches, variety of food... more
