Arrived in Bonaire on the Red Eye from Newark, with 9 divers, we all have been at the Plaza before. We had guaranteed early check in, or so I thought. Arrive at Plaza at 5:30 AM. Started the check in but were informed by a very flustered, and incompetent clerk that no rooms were available....Needless to say everyone in the... more

UPDATED Management Response to “Disappointing” on Aug 18/09; rated 1/5 We feel badly that a misunderstanding caused these guests inconvenience upon check-in. After a night of travel, they were understandably tired. However, our now-expired “Free Red Eye Rooms” sale was clearly advertised as ‘Subject to Availability’ – meaning that early check-in would be offered free of charge to guests who...

This was my first time in Bonaire and stayed here for a week. Has conveniences like a on site restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast place is convenient before going diving at Toucan Diving, which is also on site. Beach bar on site was the most hopping spot I've found outside of the downtown area. Beautiful sunset scene if... more

We stayed at the Plaza Resort for a week to dive through the Toucan Dive Shop. The diving experience was great; our hotel experience was not. Our first room had an electronic safe that did not work. After calling the front desk before we unpacked, it took 1 1/2 hours for maintenance to come try to fix it. After they... more

Plaza Resort Bonaire is currently refurbishing 30 grand suites (ocean view) and 32 standard suites (marina view). This update consists of installing new electrical wiring and plumbing, replacing the bath, shower, and toilet in each of these rooms, putting in new ceilings and new floors, and redecorating with completely new furniture. In 2007-2008, 64 standard suites were similarly refurbished, but...

This is not a part of the Plaza Hotel chain. The resort is very close to the airport and dock in Bonaire. They experienced storm damage recently, the beach was full of coral and very difficult to access the water and beach area. The swimming pool also wsa in terrible shape, tiles missing, the center hot tub broken and roped... more

This review was posted right after tropical storm “Omar,” which caused significant damage to our beach and buildings. During a 36 hour period, the strong waves over our beach caused over US $800,000 in damage. Much of the sand on our beach was taken by the waves and heavy rainfall that were connected to this tropical storm. We had to...

Unfortunately, the Plaza is not what it used to be when I stayed there several years ago. When you get to the lobby, you are bitten quite horrible by mosquitos. When maid service cleans your room, it is done with the door open so the mosquitos come in. I guess there is no mosquito abatement plan at the hotel. The... more

Mosquitoes and the Caribbean go together like salt and pepper, and unfortunately, like most places in the Caribbean, there are mosquitoes in Bonaire, especially during the rainy season. November, the date of this review, is right in the middle of rainy season so this guest would have noticed more mosquitoes than during our drier seasons. The heavy rainfalls during tropical...

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Plaza Resort from 2 Aug - 9 Aug and we had a blast. After getting off the plane there are people that great you with signs to help you get to your next destination. Most people speak English so you do not have troubles communicating. We stayed in a one bedroom villa with... more

Our Scuba Houston group had an incredibly enjoyable time staying at the Plaza Resort diving in Bonaire with Toucan Diving. The Toucan Diving staff are exceptional, the quality of service great and the Golden Eye was perfect for our needs. We also appreciate that you made two Divemasters available to be in the water with us (even though it disrupted... more

My wife and I stayed over Memorial into June, we took the midnight train from Houston; not sure we'd do over as you're a bit wiped out from lack of sleep the first day. Overall we were very pleased with the Plaza and our stay in a grand suite. Had a little trouble with the door not opening, dead batteries... more

Having read a lot of negative reviews on tripadvisor ( after I had already booked) re Plaza Hotel I was rather apprehensive before arriving and very pleasantly surprised thereafter ( and I am generally demanding). 1) room - we stayed in grand ocean suite. very nice, large rooms, clean, everything worked fine except the thermostat on the AC. we had... more

We brought a group of new divers to Bonaire and decided to stay at the Plaza, where we had been many times in the past years. This year, the service and condition of the hotel has declined to unacceptable. Greeting you in the lobby are stinging insects almost immediately. The Casino has been closed for three years now with no... more
