This review is pretty negative but I did actually have a good time staying at Abel's house when I was actually there. However, I would like to describe our experiences and warn people about Abel, because he was not honest with us. I have seen lots of reviews from travellers saying he is a great person and friend, but I... More

We stayed here when we first arrived in Havana in a group of 4. Our flight arrived at 10 pm so we were pretty tired when we got there. Abel answered the door and told us that one of the guests had decided to stay an extra night and that there was only room for 2 of us. So 2... More

Warm family. Mama's cooking is the best. Banans frites... Yum. We loved these people. They were so gracious. Like family! The rooms with 16 foot ceilings and everything was clean. Typical casa in the Old colonial stye and very central to everything. This is not fancy. This is true cuba.

My son and I stayed here and had a wonderful time. The food was fantastic and while I only spoke a tiny bit of spanish, Abel spoke a bit of english and we had some good conversations and I learned a bit. The house is beautiful too!

We had booked this place well before hand and even called again the morning of our arrival and supposedly all was good. Got there and the room was not available. Apparently the people who were there had "problems with their visa" so we were moved. From reviews on here and from our friends we know that this happens regularly here.... More

We had the chance to stay at Calle Blanco 111 between Ánimas and Trocadero and it was a great decision! This is a great place if you want to be fully immersed in the day to day life of a Cuban for although you will be situated in "Central Havana" you are only three blocks away from the Malecón and... We stayed here for 5 nights over the Christmas season, including New Year's Eve. Aidee and Greta were the most welcoming, patient, and friendliest Cubans we met on our trip. Our room was large and comfortable although the bathroom was small. The food was excellent and well priced and the casa is a lovely place to relax in their front... More

Abel and his wife are perfect hosts in a great location with lovely breakfasts BUT on two occasions when we booked with them we were moved to the neighbours house. They are also lovely but rooms can be noisy so just check where you are booked in.

Around 10 mins. walk from Old Havana and with wonderful hosts Abel and Aidee, who were extremely helpful and cooked wonderful food (see my photos). I particularly loved staying in Centro Havana but being close enough to walk to the old town. Ask Aidee to make you her famous 'tortilla con jamon' for breakfast - accompanied by fresh mango juice... Wonderful stay, they were extremely helpful and were plenty of suggestions. The breakfast was excellent but the service was the best part of it. Surroundings are a bit worn down but once you enter the house you forget. Their son Rigo also has a B&B about 2 doors down in the same block and offers one room, we were invited... More
