In short - unless you're into 1950's modernism, don't stay here, or for more than one night. The lobby is great, unchanged since the place was built - unfortunately the rooms are too. We had 2 stays here over 2 weeks as part of our tour. The hotel is also known as Hotel Riviera. Service is poor. This was our... more

This place is so heavily outdated, furniture is broken, you may find yourself appeared in a room with broken tolet, location is really quite a distance to walk to the old Havana (30-40 min. walking to Capitolio). The only nice thing - view of Malecon. On the other hand - it was exactly what we have expected from this hotel,... more

I went to Cuba to do a Salsa Dancing tour and Havana was the first stop. The tour recommended this hotel and it was the worst first impression of Cuba and Havana. The carpet is as bad as other reviewers say - wet, stained, moldy. The rooms are horrid - lamp shades and curtains had random stains the first room... more

Carpet was dirty, most bulbs did not work, bathroom in very poor conditions (bathtub rusty, mould on the walls), very often no warm water, hairdrier out of order or absent, my friend's toilet had no seat, room telephone was out of order. Very lousy service (complaining with the receptionist is useless, just a waste of time). They charge 6 CUC... more

Rooms - We saw once dead cockroach inside the room. The water in the shower was leaking after use. Beddings in awful condtion. Service - Terrible service from the receptionist. We waited almost two hours at the reception since our name wasn't showing in their system. Apparently, their system was down and they didn't bother to apologize to us. The... more

This hotel is too far away from town. each trip by taxi to town is approx GBP4. Don't expect 4 to 5 stars ratings on this hotel. My room was big & spacious. Bathroom leaking after shower. Worn carpet. Ants everywhere. Fridge in bedroom not working.Good buffet style breakfast. Comfy bed. Not much entertainment around hotel neighbourhood. Overall, dull, overpriced... more

We were told this was a five star hotel, and it might have been, but now the stars are a bit faded. However that do not matter a whole lot. It is still charming. Only one of the elevators was working, so staying at 17th floor meant quite some waiting, but then staying in Cuba you get use to waiting,... more

I initially stayed at the Riveiera 10 years ago. At that time it was a bit frayed round the edges but still had a bit of its old glory. This time round the experince was a nightmare. When I arrived they had no record of my booking, despite having booked on the internet the day previously and having recieved a confirmation... more

I approached this hotel rather warily, my room having been booked on my behalf; I'd read some alarming things here about the hotel, and my expectations were as a result pretty low. In the event I was pleasanly surprised. The common parts have character, staff were mostly pleasant and obliging, and my room was large and bright. The hotel's location... more

Date 7th March 2008. Very much a sort of up-market backpackers hotel. Had no choice but to stay here as all other hotels were full. Definitely a case of you get what you pay for. Had a room on the 19th floor which would have been nice if: a) it did not smell of mold b) the lifts worked properly... more
