I have only thus far spent one night at this hotel but countless times on its famous terrace or rooftop restaurant. EL BUENO - this hotel has Santiago's most famous terrace overlooking Santiago's most famous square. - also a rooftop restaurant/patio with a great view looking towards the bay. - definitely in one of Santiago's best tourist locations. - on... more

We liked this hotel. The situation was great overlooking a lively square with plenty to watch. The view from the rooftop bar was lovely, especially at night. The hotel staff were, in the main friendly and helpful, and the food was OK. Our rooms were spacious and clean. One of the bands that played in the evening was excellent. Young man... more

Great location in one of the main squares in Santiago. The bar is the place to people watch to your hearts content both in the daytime and nightime Rooms had no natural light and the air conditioning does not work well enough to keep the rooms cool, so spent very little time in the room, but we did not come... more

We were really disappointed in this hotel - room was sorely needing a coat of paint and a good clean. French windows wouldn't budge to open so made room feel more dingy. Live cockroach in safe one day was an "encounter" I never want to deal with again. As others have said hotel was "tired" and in need of upgrade.... more

There is absolutely nothing grand about the Casa Grande, anything that may once have been grand faded to non existance 20 years ago. The staff are unfriendly to the point of making one suspicious of their motives and our room was disgusting, even regognising that most of Cuba is extremely poor. We stayed in a family home in Trinidad and... more

We stayed here for 3 nights in January. Its central location makes it the perfect place to explore Santiago. We parked outside, paying the "official" to look after the car. This was 2CUC per day which was the normal rate for many of the hotels we stayed at. We were offered an upgrade to a suite for 5CUC per night... more

This has to be the noisiest hotel in Cuba with competing music from the music school, the very late opening club adjacent and the music in the hotel itself. This would be bearable if the hotel was at all well maintained or the lift worked, which would have avoided the need to use the rickety and downright dangerous stairs to... more

As per previous reviewer's comments, this hotel cannot be beaten for location. The square in front of the hotel is full of atmosphere and so is a great place to hang out. The highlight is the lobby bar where you can relax and people watch over several drinks. My room was good by Cuban standards (ie. basic but clean), although... more

I've stayed in the hotel twice and would go back. The front rooms have floor-length doors opening onto the Parque Cespedes, where Santiago's main activities go on. Opening them up, you see the Parque before you with its beautifully kept buildings and constant human pageant. The ground floor terrace is the ideal place to sit and people watch with a... more

The Hotel Casa Granda is a fine building in need of a make over. Good situation at main square but be prepared for hustlers who marred our visit to Santiago de Cuba. Our room had had a leak and smelled of damp also the toilet stank and we were told by reception that this was a problem in the hotel.... more
