A group of family and friends stayed at MLA between June 5 - 12. We travelled with sunwing. We had a morning flight and everything went smoothly. Once we arrived at the resort we checked in and were given drinks and our room keys. Be sure to ask for a safe key for your room at the front desk. Grounds:... more

Not expecting much of Cuba in comparison to other islands, we were pleasantly surprised with the hotel and it's food. Restaurants were good, the facilities well kept, the beach amazing, never visited the pool, but the restaurant hours sucked. They need to open longer for all meals. Also, we were having lunch at the poolside restaurant where I asked for... more

We had a wonderful time at Melia las Americas. We were prepared to tip and did so happily given the economic situation of the Cubans and the fact that it seems that many of the resort workers are supporting family members. A few people were somewhat surly, but overall we found them gracious and helpful. Many of them are well... more

HI. I just came back from Varadero Cuba where I stayed at the Melia Las Americas. It was my 13th country visited and my fist time in Cuba. The main problem with this place is its staff ! They just don't care. It all have to do with the magic word "tipping". I don't think you should tip in order... more

This was our fifth time at this resort, and we stayed 4 weeks. On our trip last May, we made new friends and agreed to meet again this year. This hotel has a loyal clientele. Over the years we have seen a number of familiar faces. In fact, our friends have been 14 times. We all hope to return next... more

I just got back from Varadero having gone with some girlfriends. We had a blast. Having read mixed reviews on this resort pre-departure, I really wasn't sure what to expect. As with most trips, much of it is what you make of it. We found the Cuban people to be so warm and friendly and the Varadero beach pristine and... more

3rd vacation to Varadero. Stayed at the Blau and Iberostar Varadero on previous visits. The Melia does not even come close! Check-in took about an hour and there were only about 12 of us checking in at the same time. There were only 3 A la carte restaurants open and we were only allowed to book 2 in a week,... more

My first feeling was that I am back in time to Soviet Union. I remember very well mix feeling to the tourists, especially to these “imperialistic foreigners” travelling in eastern block in time of cold war. Same in today’s Cuba. You could buy person, but you couldn’t tip to get service. Life there is too harsh and these 1-2 cuc’s... more

Melia Las Americas definitely earns the good reviews it gets. Anyone who complains should just stay home because wherever they go they won't be happy. Check In/Check Out No problems, treated nicely. Just need to remember to ask for a key to the safe as it isn't always given to you automatically. A la Cartes International - by far the... more

We stayed at the Melia Las Americas from May 8th to 15th. We went with Sunwing (after originally booking with Conquest and having to re-book!). I read many reviews before we left and enjoyed the photos others have posted. So much can be learned on the tripadvisor site. We had stayed at this hotel 8 years ago and had fond... more
