We stayed at Papillote for 5 days, and it couldn't have been better. The grounds include a beautiful waterfall with hot and cold soaking tubs, trails, and an extraordinary variety of flora and fauna! The staff was attentive and cooperative, the food was excellent, and the rooms were clean and well kept. All in all a great vacation! more

The negative review by the solo traveller who stayed at Papillote in October just goes to show how different people's tastes are. My husband and I stayed here in late October/early November (room 11), and really enjoyed it! A driver, Alfred, from the hotel picked us up at the airport and we got not only a good, safe ride on... more

I had made arrangements with the hotel for a cab to pick me up at the ferry but no one showed, a foreshadowing of my visit here. The cab driver I took ripped me off, (Ok, my fault, I should never assume peple are honest) and tried to sell me a tour driving around the Island for $150. He said... more

I can understand that not everyone loves this hotel. Its primary appeal is its location in the rainforest with lovely gardens and relaxing natural hot pools. With that does come intermittant rain (though lovely hot rain), dampness and lizards and insects, but for me that was all expected. It is true though that there are some more annoying disadvantages. There... more

We booked for five days but would have left after two if our preferred hotel had had availability. The setting in the gardens is lovely (apart from the humming hydro electric plant next door). The buildings are drab concrete and look like government issue! The rooms are attractive with nice furniture, but insect screens on the louvres would have been... more

My husband and I stayed at the Papillote for a little over a week in May 2008 on our honeymoon. We stayed in Room 12, which was beautiful with a hot spring tub right outside the door and a lovely private garden area. It has a fantastic four-poster bed carved by the same artist who created the beautiful sculptures in... more

We spent 10 days at Papillote in December 2008, and can't wait to return. We booked this holiday by web in April 2008 and had extensive exchanges with Anne about amenities and arrangements generally. She was helpful and quick to reply, and made many useful suggestions concerning transport and the like. When we arrived, Alfred met us at the airport... more

I first read about Papillote more than 13 years ago in Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel magazine. I was intrigued. It sounded like a Garden of Eden. It was indeed a pioneer- one of the first environmentally sensitive hotels. Perhaps it was a wonderful place all those years ago. I feel this sentimentality about its status as a "pioneer " is... more

My boyfriend suggested taking a little romantic getaway from school (he goes to the medical school in Dominica), and we immediately booked a room at Papillote. We purchased the MAP Plan, which included dinner that night and breakfast the next morning. The food was pretty good! We took a dip in the mineral pool that night, which was very relaxing... more

Papillote Wilderness Retreat is a wonderful relaxing place to stay nestled in the lush rainforest about 15 minute drive from downtown Roseau. Rooms are huge ( we stayed in #12) and although rustic had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. The food was delicious although you don't really have much variety. The grounds are incredible with hot springs, waterfalls... more
