Ok, just got back from this spot and will NEVER stay there again. I found the service 50/50. Sometimes you got a real cool concierge, othertimes they were really 'bothered' by your presence. The security overnight harassed visitors for tips and threatened them. I had roaches as well. I paid $65 a night, and was charged for my guests which... more

I stayed at the Duque de Wellington hotel fof a few days in June before heading to the North Coast on my 2 week trip to the Dominican Republic. It is clean, comfortable, friendly, and reasonably priced but often I got the feeling that I was staying at a gay whorehouse. More about that later. The hotel arranged transportation from... more

Not a terrible place, but there are definitely better options in Santo Domingo for a similar price. The first room that I was given had a strong (strong) mildew/mold smell and one tiny window. The second room didn't smell, but the peeling wallpaper and rundown furnishings made it less-than-cheerful. The front desk staff were civil but definitely not friendly or... more

I have stayed at the Duke 6 times, yes the hotel is dated, its not a prefabricated super hotel, it has been built with sweat by the owners and staff, so reviews should reflect that family hotels are not going to be hilton style. the rooms are comfortable but best to take a suite, only a few dollars extra but... more

Good points: Excellent location, many restaurants close by, convenience stores, bank, street flower seller around the corner can make nice bouquets at reasonable price - splurge on personalizing your room, get your hair done close by - prices are great. Front desk staff is polite, helpful. Gay friendly, not exclusively gay. English spoken well. Miguel cabdriver across the street or... more

All three trips to SD I stayed here and couldn't imagine staying anywhere else. They offer personal taxi service with a trusted driver who also makes an excellent tour guide, pointing out the sights along the way and making recommendations as to places to go. The hotel is very convenient to everywhere you would want to be. The security is... more

My best friend and I stayed here on our last trip to Sto. Domingo and it was terrible. The air conditioner didn't work in the first room my friend was assigned to and he had to change rooms. No big deal except the A/C went out in my room the second day we were there. The toilets didn't work properly... more

This was my 7th visit to the Duque and I was not disappointed as usual. The staff makes you feel so comfortable and the renovations are very impressive. All of the staff goes the extra step to make you feel comfortable and welcom and Emilio, the owner is like an uncle, who is there to make sure your every desire... more

Good staff, friendly, accommodating, helpful - am grateful for caring service provided. The suites are definitely worth the extra money - larger, with patio, definitely a much more pleasant experience. Good restaurants, mini markets closeby. Didn't notice gay activity, but the hotel is known as gay friendly. Note most five star hotels in Santo Domingo are much more strict with... more
