A great little hotel. Quiet, clean, but the rooms are rather small and for 110$US a night, I thought is was slightly overpriced. Still, very nice hotel, good breakfast, clean pool and very centrally located. more

This is a fantastic place to stay in - beautiful, safe and clean. I had originally booked the room with the steep staircase but after I told them that I am pregnant and the stairs are too steep, they upgraded me to a different room (without an extra charge). Everyone has been great and helpful. Its almost like a home... more
Dona Elvira is a laid-back interesting place to stay in the old Zona Colonial in Santo Domingo. I thought I had booked because of Trip Advisor advice as I usually do, but in thinking back I believe it was because the Lonely Planet guidebook had influenced my choice. Looking over some of the reviews on Trip Advisor, I would say... more
We stayed one night in Feburary and this was enough. The basic room ran about $100 and you had to sleep in a loft reached only by a very steep stairs. The room wasn't as clean as it could be and was definitely overpriced. The nicest feature was the patio area where you could eat a meagre free breakfast that... more
We loved this hotel. It was located on a quiet street yet within walking distance of all the sites/restaurants/shops of the Colonial Zone, El Conde, and the Malecon (a bit of a longer walk) We stayed in the Antoinetta room (#10). Perfect for a couple. The room was very clean and everything worked great. I'll have to admit it was... more
The Dona Elvira was a lovely jewel of a small inn in the Zona Colonial. Hilton, the manager was extremely nice and helpful, the included breakfast was lovely, the room , though plain , had soft sheets and good mattresses and more importantly was quiet. It is within walking distance to all historic sites, restaurants and souvenir type shopping. The... more
This B&B was a sancuary in the middle of the city under a mango tree. A very quaint lil place. We stayed during Carnaval for 3 nights. The Antoinette Room was a good deal for us on Expedia. The location was great for us, near dining, trendy bars and colonial sights. Also was a quick walk to the Carnaval. The... more
Chose this from Lonely Planet Author's choice, and stayed 2 or 3 nights. Great location, nice and comfortable rooms, quiet and relaxing. We had a chat with the hosts which were very nice people. Also, the entire staff was friendly and helpful. We ate a lunch or dinner in the restaurant one night, but that was a disappointment. It was... more
My girlfriend and I found this wonderfully relaxing place through the Lonely Planet travel guide. We booked a smaller room a month previous, but when we arrived decided on the biggest room, or suite rather. It had a large high ceilinged bedroom, huge doors leading out to our own small courtyard with outdoor shower, then our enclosed bathroom beyond that... more
The hotel is nice, but a little overpriced. The owner is beautiful and very flirtatious - always a plus in the Caribbean! I highly recommend you stay here. more
