I could just lay on the beach here forever. There is endless space to enjoy the beautiful palm trees overhead, and you can choose shade or sun depending on your mood for the moment... except it is very difficult to do so because this resort does not have enough chairs for its guests. We didn't sit by the pool the whole time we were there because we never saw an empty chair there during our stay. The other issue I found troubling was not enough towels. Twice in our room, we returned to find that our used towels had been taken and not replaced. Staff said they didn't have any, and we had to wait in our sandy, wet clothes for new ones so that we could shower before dinner. We only were able to exchange our beach towels once during our stay, because every time we went to the hut, they were out. I have stayed at least 12 different all-inclusive resorts, and this was the worst yet for finding chairs and towels. There are sales people hanging around trying to sell you a membership to their "Exclusive" club. They will invite you to a meal at the Exclusive restaurant, which sounds fine.. but once there, you learn that you don't get to enjoy your meal, as instead, someone you haven't met yet will sit at your table with you and quiz you. Then, after you've spent an hour with them and taken a tour of the building, they still expect you to sit inside and watch a 90-minute presentation. Don't fall for the invitation to dinner unless you are serious about paying for a discount plan. The guy at our table lost me before we even got started, as he would hardly even look at me, and tried to sell only to my husband, even though we both told him I travel more than he does. I don't want to deal with sexism on my vacation, and then sit inside for 2 hours on a beautiful day. Sorry. I'm out. You would do better trying to just get me to watch the presentation straight up. The restaurant and entertainment staff were great. Jaun Pablo at the buffet was very friendly and amused us with his bird sounds. Monkey, Skinny, and Super Felix kept us entertained in the evenings. The food was quite flavourful, especially the Steakhouse. The tepanyaki display was a little less spectacular than some I've seen, but at least I wasn't afraid of knives flying around too much. haha We had a "luxury" room, but it really wasn't luxurious, just normal. Beds were ok. Water pressure was minimal. I'm glad I had a recent haircut cause you'd never get the shampoo out of long hair. Balcony door didn't lock; neither did the deadbolt. Overall, I enjoyed this stay, and I'd probably come back again if they had more chairs. Decent price for the value, I suppose. The beach with the trees is so very relaxing - once you're seated. Most of the things you'd want to use are over at the Playa Bachata, which Senator guests have full access to. As far as I know, it doesn't work the other way around. The food is a little better with more variety, I think, at the Senator buffet, but other than that, you're not gaining anything by staying at Senator over Playa Bachata.

Every morning we dragged chairs together because they were all reserved very early in the morning. What a shame because it was a beautiful beach but it wrecks it when there are not enough chairs. We have been going to all inclusive resorts for 25 years and usually you have to look for chairs but not like this. At the Senator they have an extreme shortage of chairs. The buffet was okay and the Steakhouse and Japanese Restaurant were good. We had a problem booking reservations though and could not get into the Italian Restaurant at all. The pools were nice. The rooms were dated but clean. The beds and pillows were good. Dannelsa, a server on the buffet restaurant patio, was very good and always smiling.

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for the time taken to review your stay with us. We're delighted that the quality of our beds and pillows contributed to a comfortable stay, and it's wonderful to hear that Dannelsa's service at the buffet restaurant patio added a bright touch to your dining experience. We are glad you enjoyed the Steakhouse and Japanese Restaurant, and appreciate your high regard for their offerings. We're concerned to learn about your experience with the lounge chairs on the beach. While we strive to provide ample seating for all our guests, it seems we did not meet your expectations in this area. Regarding reservations at our Italian Restaurant, we regret any inconvenience you faced. Our aim is always to accommodate our guests' dining preferences and we will certainly look into this matter. We take pride in the upkeep of our rooms and are pleased that you found yours to be clean and well-maintained, despite noting they felt dated. Rest assured, we are continuously working to ensure our accommodations meet the high standards our guests expect. We hope to welcome you back. Best wishes, Alejandro Castillo, General Manager

Everything was fine, the staff was very nice and helpful. The food was of average quality, which is ok for this type of all-inclusive buffet. I was always able to find something that was okay. the Japanese restaurant was not exceptional for me, the steak house was better. It would be nice to have more sunbeds on the beach :) and a drink menu in the bars. otherwise everything is fine, I appreciate the cleanliness in the rooms and in the entire resort and the peace, no one bothers you, no one questions you, we had a great time. thank you for a nice holiday

After being greeted by the friendliest staff ever, I was directed to our room in Bldg 3. Rooms are standard size with very comfortable bedding and modern closet inserts. Mini bar is refilled every day, standard with an all inclusive. My biggest complaint is that they need about 200 more chaise lounges on the property, not enough for the amount of guests. And their time share pitch is ridiculous, who thinks up these numbers? Steer clear of the presentation and relax at the pool, well worth it. Their entire staff should be commended for there attitude and work ethic.

I have seen a big mix of positive and negative reviews, and seeing those reviews before I came to Senator with my girlfriend had me very worried...SO, I am writing this review to give everyone a recent honest review, especially those that are worried now that they booked and are seeing some negative reviews. This is all based off my experience, starting from the airport arrival, to leaving- Location/Flight/Airport: The Puerto Plata airport is pretty small. the workers are pretty friendly. You will have volunteers there that grab your bag to help you and then want a tip so just be prepared to say no to them helping or be ready to probably give a tip. The resort was roughly a 45 min bus ride from the airport. The drivers are intense in the DR there but we never felt unsafe and we trusted the bus driver and team that took us. We stopped at 5 resorts before ours where other people got off, and in all honesty, the location of Senator was easily the best. out of town, secluded, away from all the noise. Room: My girlfriend and I stayed in the senator junior king suite, which is the lowest room level. We have NO complaints. There was a few stains on the curtains, and very small rust spots in the shower curtain rod, but the bed was comfortable, the AC worked, WIFI worked, shower water was not super hot, but if you give it a few minutes to heat up then its totally fine. The maids did a great job everyday cleaning, and there was a nice terrace to sit outside for morning coffees or whatever. Upon arrival, out tv did not work, we told front desk and within 20 min the technician brought a new tv for us which worked. Overall, room was good. Security: Honestly one of the only complaints I have is the lack of security. I don't think there was a time I felt "unsafe" at the resort, but if I ever did I would be worried because in the 8 days we were there, I saw 3-4 security guards. but this brings me to my next section... Beach: the beach was very nice. Lots of shade, so if you want to tan, either go to the pool area or find a good spot on the beach. And seriously you have to go save a spot at like 7-8am. YOU WILL run into people claiming you took their spot, even if you've been lying on the chair for multiple hours. There are signs saying no saving spots, but people do and the rule is not enforced. Be prepared to most likely have confrontation with people on the beach, and make sure you can stand up for yourself because I'm not going to sugar coat it, there are a ton of entitled people staying a the resort and you might run into problems. 3 separate times my girlfriend and I were told we were in someone's spot, or that they have been staying at that spot all day, even though we got to the spot at 7am and the chairs were not taken. So just be prepared. We also saw a fight on the beach lol. people were arguing over a spot and the man literally spit on the women. Once again no security around so nothing happened. You can feel the tension on the beach sometimes. The water was nice to swim in, the sand in the water was a bit rocky but other than that it was nice to go for a swim. There are the occasional people coming by asking if you want to buy an excursion or for them to braid your hair, but they aren't annoying like so many of these reviews say. Just say "No thank you" and they smile and leave. Its wasn't a big deal for us. Buffet: We would say the buffet was pretty good. They did make slight changes every night by doing a theme such as Italian or Mexican. The waiters and waitresses at the buffet were honestly the nicest workers in the resort. They were great! We did get sick of the buffet but the 6th to 7th day, but honestly we were just sick of eating lol. Facilities/restaurants/bars/entertainment: All booking for restaurants are after 9am. We messed up and didn't book until the third last day and nothing was available. Legends sports bar was where we spent a lot of time. the bartenders are friendly and are consistent with the drinks they make. The food there was okay, but a nice change overall from the buffet. if you want to have lots of drinks and see where all the people getting drunk are, go to Legends after 10pm lol, it was a good time. The Mokka coffee shop was good, the gelato shop was good as well. Pizza was okay, but it was convenient if you were hungry between buffet times. The gift shops were good, and cigar shop was awesome, the worker was so helpful, brought a few back home. The pool bar was good as well. Entertainment started too late in my opinion, at least for us. We were exhausted most nights and would only stay for part of the entertainment as it started at 9:30. The entertainment workers were amazing though, They tried to get every hyped up, and if they saw you throughout the day by the pool, they would say hello or throw a little joke out. Some reviews said the wine and beer and drinks were awful, but honestly they were good. The only beer you can get unless you're VIP is "presidente" but I actually enjoyed it. The wine was pretty good, and the cocktails were consistent which is what matters to me. Management/staff: The management was good. Check-in took 2 minutes. They answered all our questions. Everyone working there would always say hello with a smile. The landscapers were great, they kept the grounds pristine. It would rain heavily for a bit and the leaves from the trees would be all over the grounds, but within 10 minutes they were raked up. Overall: The resort is worth the cost. As long as you're not a snob and are open minded ready to just have a good time, you will enjoy it!

The Bad Not enough lounge chairs. All lounge chairs are reserved before 7 am. I would not go back or recommend this resort because of this. Setting an alarm for 6:00 am to get lounge chairs when on vacation is ridiculous. Many of the chairs are also broken. Buy more chairs Senator. The pools are not heated, that sucks. No pool side service. If you want anything you have to go to the bar and wait in line. The buffet has limited options and very repetitive. Only one small pan of bacon in the morning and was typically empty. Pineapple tray was typically empty as well. I tried some rabbit, it was all bones and sauce no meat. Only saw potatoes once at the buffet unless you want cold French fries. I tried to get a burger one day at a beach BBQ. Stood in line for 30 min and gave up. The evening entertainment is very poor. Take pride in your local culture rather than try and put on an American show. The Good The beach is amazing. Lots of spots to sit, if you can get a chair, either in the sun or in the shade, by the ocean or in the trees. Close to 1/2 mile of sand beach to walk along. The ocean water was much warmer than the pools. I saw lots of people snorkelling. The grounds are well maintained. Everyday grounds crews are cleaning up and making things look great. Lots of staff around keeping the place clean and helping out. Rooms are clean and everything worked. The sports lounge and the beach restaurant both have menus that you can order from at a table or from the counter. This is a nice option. You can get some fresh made food at these locations. Three al la carte restaurants available for diner. You have to make reservations in the morning at the info table. The Japanese restaurant was a fun evening. I had a nice Salmon diner at the Italian restaurant, the steakhouse is just ok. Sitting outside for meals is great at the buffet, beautiful views.
