Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Merrils is the best for us, the Staff is wonderful, it was great to see employees from our 2018 visit, COVID has really hurt the Resort industry, they were very thankful we are traveling to Jamaica. Our rooms are the beach front , there are only four. they have everything needed. Food is plentiful, don't expect gourmet, it is simple. Beach is clean and a welcome to leaving busy work atmosphere. The grounds are maintained w/ lots of care. The security staff on the beach are courteous and helpful to get unwanted solicitations to leave. Can't wait for our next visit.

My husband and I spent here 9 nights since 2019-12-24 until 2020-01-02 and we had a wonderful time. The location is great, we felt safe. The Negril center is a 20 minutes walk away, of course you can also take a route taxi - taxis with red plates. In the vicinity of the hotel there is a small shopping centre where you can buy souvenirs. There are also grocery stores and an ATM machine. The beach (7 miles beach) in front of the hotel is amazing, very clean, lots of shade, no sea weed. Not crowded, always enough chairs for everybody. Security was always there. The food was very basic, but tasteful. A few choices, every day the same. And you better go eating in the first hour, because later in the last hour the choice is very poor. The best thing was jerk chicken or jerk pork with spicy sauce. The staff (bartenders, waiters, receptionists) are very friendly, polite and helpful always reminding you that you are on a vacation so there is no need to hurry. The reception is only open until 10 p.m. We arrived around midnight and there was only the security guy - he gave us the key of the room. The rooms are showing their age, but clean, the housekeeping staff were great. The equipment is basic, no fridge, no hair dryer and not enough space for clothes. Wi-fi is preety good - accessible in the reception, on parts of the beach and in the restaurant. The safe costs 3 USD/day and they also demand a 50 USD deposit.

Breakfast and the meals in general were very nice! It's also nice and close to the beach! The cocktails are yummy! The rooms were ok. We had some lovely and well-priced massages there. The staff was very friendly and helpful at all times!

Just had dinner at Merrils 111 and the service was excellent. All employees are attentive and friendly. Check in agent was great today and the staff in the dining room checked on us frequently especially Mr. Charles Smith.

I had a great stay in Jamaica but thank goodness I knew what I was getting into by picking a 3-star hotel. I am very flexible and open minded when visiting another country, which you will have to be to if you stay here. The room was very basic, and nothing more, as the only items provided were linens, blankets, pillows, toilet paper, towels, bar of soap, cold AC, and a working TV. There is NO Wi-Fi in the rooms ONLY the front office or restaurant just FYI. I very much enjoyed our private patio with table and chairs because we played cards each night. Our bathroom had a water leak, so we had to walk around with slippers or avoid stepping in water in the bathroom. The water was HOT it could burn your skin off. There is no fridge or waters/beer provided in the room. The hotel staff was not friendly nor mean just kind of there. We had all inclusive breakfast each morning, which was pretty good but always the same. I always had the scrambled eggs, breakfast beans, and potatoes. The beach was beautiful and had plenty of chairs for everyone. They also provide one beach towel per person and you pick them up in the lobby. The water was clear and beautiful, and you didn’t have to worry about seaweed. Although, I am 99% sure I was stung by a jellyfish. The beach was free of trash and was raked each morning. There will be local Jamaicans coming up to you ALL DAY LONG but that’s how it is. We just said no, and they went on with the next person. I got asked to buy weed about 1000 times along with fruit, horse rides, and other random stuff. I like local vendors, so they did not bother me, but we did have to watch our stuff if we were in the ocean, but they never messed with anything. There was security on site but not sure if they really did anything from what I could tell. The reason why I picked Merrill’s is due to location. You could truly walk anywhere down the beach or road in either direction. You can literally walk outside the front gates and have 3 cabs trying to get your business and we must of easily rode in over 5 cabs from very nice to not so nice. Make sure you pick a price before you get into their car. I would def stay here again but I would not bring children. If you want to get away from the 5-star resort, with no local culture, I would recommend staying here or around this area. The beer was cold, the food was fresh, and it was so comfortable staying local and soaking up the culture.

I liked it very much. A cozy small hotel. There is not a lot of food here, but it is tasty and you can always choose something. The sea is clean, sometimes there is a huge ray. P.S. If you are going to this hotel, please let me know in private message, I want to ask you for something.

Have been to Negril several times. First time at Merrils III. The staff here is incredible. Shout out to our maid Veronica. Room was spotless and cleaned everyday with clean sheets everyday as well. Our bartenders were great! Stanley, Marlin and Cher. My husband is diabetic and we needed Diet Soda for him. The bartenders did their best but we ended up asking the lady who runs the gift shop and she got us some Diet Coke that we could purchase. The food was a little repetitive but we always found something to eat. I did not really want to eat soup in the 84 degree weather but their soups are VERY good. jerk chicken from the grill everyday for lunch from the grill was great too! We would come back for the right price! Also, my husband got eaten alive by Gnats and I think it happend in the room. They clean with the door open and we would come in after the beach to these things that we thought were harmless. Not so, bring spray.

After a long long drive we (myself and my daughter) finally arrived at Merrils 3 and as soon as we got off the bus it started raining...& it rained all night like a torrential downpour it was not good. First impressions were not the best. Front desk staff seemed tired which is normal i guess. Got the rundown about the towels and since we planned to jump right into the ocean regardless of the rain I asked for the two we were allotted & was told there was none available at the time they were being washed...OKKKK so next since it took awhile to get there naturally we were hungry. Front desk told us to go the the restaurant and there would probably be some pastries and coffee we could snack on since dinner didn't start until 7pm...mind u it's 4pm & it's raining so it's not like we were in the mood to trek around to find something to eat. Went to the restaurant and the nice older lady i'm sorry i don't remember her name made us some cheese sandwiches and a fruit platter...let me tell you those were the best dang sandwiches and fruit ever we appreciated it very much. We just sat in the restaurant waiting for dinner and dinner definitely was worth the wait. As a matter of fact all the the food that was served breakfast lunch and dinner was superb. I've stayed at bigger resorts with more selections and Merrils menu every single day was amazing...the food was so good i looked forward to every meal...sometimes when i'm on vacation i'll sleep in and miss a breakfast or two or take a nap and miss lunch but i made sure to make every single meal. i had jerk chicken off the grill with fries it was excellent...the soups were awesome fish tea creamed pumpkin etc...anyway the beach was amazing and beautiful of course there were plenty of chairs and sun loungers and shade under the two trees...the drinks from the beach bar were always made perfectly...the room we stayed in was a bit spar two beds and one was a twin which is not what i booked it was suppose to be two double beds but that's ok...only one spare blanket that was kind of old and hard. linens were clean...no washcloths which i'm use to now with a lot of places i just bring my own...no ironing board or hair dryer but from other reviews i've read you can request those items from the Front desk...tv remote had a rubberband holding the batteries in place...and the tv was programmed to all spanish language channels which we lived with for two days before we figured out the to fix it...and the cable went completely out for a whole day which happened to coincide with us wanting to chill in the room and take a break from the sun since we were sunburnt so that was a bit of an irritation but not the fault of the resort...special shout out to whoever our housekeeper was i never saw her but everyday she got all that sand out of our room and we came back to not a grain on the floor just pure cleanliness...staff was generally friendly and overall professional no complaints about any of them...I definitely feel I got more than what i paid for and will i be back again...definitely

Once again, another fine trip to Negril and Merrils. I have stayed at Merrils II on numerous occasions and this trip decided to try Merrils III for the first time. Checkin was easy and the room was slightly less appointed. There was no table or sitting chairs and limited drawer space. For me, I was most disappointed in the wifi service as compared to Merrils II. At Merrils II if I were located close to the office area I usually obtained wifi service in the room. I inquired at the front desk if I could upgrade or move to Merrils II. Since it was late in my first day there, I was informed that I would have to speak to Mr. Grant the Manager the following morning. The next day, Mr. Grant arranged for me to move to Merrils II at no extra charge. Merrils II was wonderful as usual. The beach is beautiful and well maintained. The grounds and gardens are well groomed. The food was plentiful and good. The staff was most pleasant and helpful. Thank you, Mr. Grant for providing another superb stay in Negril.
