I had a great stay in Jamaica but thank goodness I knew what I was getting into by picking a 3-star hotel. I am very flexible and open minded when visiting another country, which you will have to be to if you stay here. The room was very basic, and nothing more, as the only items provided were linens, blankets, pillows, toilet paper, towels, bar of soap, cold AC, and a working TV. There is NO Wi-Fi in the rooms ONLY the front office or restaurant just FYI. I very much enjoyed our private patio with table and chairs because we played cards each night. Our bathroom had a water leak, so we had to walk around with slippers or avoid stepping in water in the bathroom. The water was HOT it could burn your skin off. There is no fridge or waters/beer provided in the room. The hotel staff was not friendly nor mean just kind of there. We had all inclusive breakfast each morning, which was pretty good but always the same. I always had the scrambled eggs, breakfast beans, and potatoes. The beach was beautiful and had plenty of chairs for everyone. They also provide one beach towel per person and you pick them up in the lobby. The water was clear and beautiful, and you didn’t have to worry about seaweed. Although, I am 99% sure I was stung by a jellyfish. The beach was free of trash and was raked each morning. There will be local Jamaicans coming up to you ALL DAY LONG but that’s how it is. We just said no, and they went on with the next person. I got asked to buy weed about 1000 times along with fruit, horse rides, and other random stuff. I like local vendors, so they did not bother me, but we did have to watch our stuff if we were in the ocean, but they never messed with anything. There was security on site but not sure if they really did anything from what I could tell. The reason why I picked Merrill’s is due to location. You could truly walk anywhere down the beach or road in either direction. You can literally walk outside the front gates and have 3 cabs trying to get your business and we must of easily rode in over 5 cabs from very nice to not so nice. Make sure you pick a price before you get into their car. I would def stay here again but I would not bring children. If you want to get away from the 5-star resort, with no local culture, I would recommend staying here or around this area. The beer was cold, the food was fresh, and it was so comfortable staying local and soaking up the culture.…
