My family and I had booked Shields Negril because we had friends who were visiting Jamaica and staying there. It was an old hotel andit showed in many areas, but it wasn,t rundown and it was clean. The staff was very nice and very helpful. The rooms were very basic ( you had to pay extra if you wanted a small refrigerator in your room). Breakfast can be included in the price of you stay and the breakfast is very good. The bart area is also nice. It is a convenient hotel, i did enjoy my stay. Karen F,. Jamaican

rooms are clean, cleaning staff very polite and helpful, close to stores, to many beach vendors on the beach they bother you all day, food menu not very good, food is just luke warm when you get it, to many dogs hanging around the restaurant waiting to be feed these dogs have flees and should not be allowed on the patio restaurant .

A good hotel for lay on the beach, but do not expect too much. Every day a room is clean, clean towels, but for breakfast ( butter and jam ) you can wait one hour if the waiters decide so. If you pay a special breakfast, you must have the exact amount of money because they do not return the money.

I arrived at this hotel late (10pm) on a Friday night without a reservation. I had not appreciated that most reception desks in Negril shut down at 8pm, but the Shields was an exception. It had been raining, so the wifi in the hotel did not work (however, it didn't work in the rest of Negril either). The staff hooked me up to their mobile wifi, got me a room, showed me around, opened up the bar (which had closed) to get me a beer and made sure I got salt fish and ackee for my breakfast. Restaurant was good. Coffee let them down. In truth the rooms and common parts are a bit dated, but you could say that about most of Negril. It is situated right on the beach with a decent little swimming pool. I wouldn't pay over the odds to stay here but what it lacks in its finish, it makes up for in its staff. Special shout out to "Python" on security and "Jane" on the reception Team. Top people.…

Stayed a week in the one bedroom with a kitchenette. There are not many pictures of the kitchenette so I made sure to take some pics. The place is very spacious, there was one bedroom with two beds, dresser and tv with some cable channels. Bathroom had a shower with good water pressure. Outside of the bedroom there was a closet and another area to hang your clothes. In the living room area there is a bed, dresser, tv with cable channels and a dining room table with 4 chairs. Off of the living room is a small kitchen complete with a stove with oven and four burners, refrigerator, sink, pots and pans, silverware, dishes, a coffee maker, kettle for tea, toaster and microwave. The place was larger than I imagined and very comfortable. The ac was working great. We ate at the restaurant there often. The food was very good in my opinion. They have a variety of things including Jamaican favorites like jerk chicken, escovitch, rice and peas and some soups. They also have burgers etc. The restaurant’s prices are typical of the beach prices. Everyone that works at the restaurant and beach bar are so nice and accommodating, they really try to make sure you get what you are looking for. There’s a security guard always on duty to keep the “salesmen” on the beach from bugging you while you’re eating. I was very surprised by the food in the restaurant and don’t agree with some of the past reviews talking about the food being bad, I thought it was quite good and I consider myself a foodie. The location of the hotel is right on the beach and you are within walking distance of the town with small shops and restaurants. We enjoyed fresh fruit everyday from the fruit market in town. There’s no WiFi in the rooms but there’s WiFi in the lobby, slow WiFi as I found that to be true for every part of Jamaica I was in. I can’t think of enough kind words to say about the staff. From the front desk, to the maids and to everyone working in the restaurant. Great price for a comfortable, clean and safe place. …

Checking in went smooth and the front desk was very friendly and helpful. We stayed for 2 weeks with 2 small boys (room 22). The pool is perfect when the sea is rough. Awesome food and we ate about 12 lobsters during our stay. Rooms are a little small but everything else makes up for it. Thank you guys at the bar: J.P, Stefan, Jermaine and Ricardo and Nicolas in the kitchen. Security was tight (we will miss you Flemming). I would highly recommend this hotel and surroundings. Close to downtown and not in the middle of the hustle. We will be back!

I felt compelled to write a review so that there is a recent review for this hotel. It is located directly on the beach. Has a pool, swim up bar, towel service, plenty of beach chairs, fantastic staff, super clean rooms, restaurant with reasonable prices, and great food. Fridges are available, but you HAVE to request it in advance. Kitchen suites are also available, (our travel partners stayed in this suite) which are ideal if you want to save some cash. These were stocked with coffee maker, blender, toaster, full size fridge, stove, oven, pans and utensils. We stayed in a regular room # 17, which was facing the road access to the beach; travellers hotel is the next hotel on the other side of this road. I was completely satisfied with the room, the bathroom was clean, there was a dresser and two night tables that you could put your clothes. Full size closet to hang your clothes. We did request and receive a fridge which was a necessity. I also brought a small kettle so that I could make my own coffee, noodles or soup to make as needed. Bring your own shampoo conditioner. They had provided hand soap. The pictures on this website are exactly what the hotel and grounds look like. I absolutely recommend this hotel. The price is right for a beach front hotel, and the staff and management were always accommodating to our needs. …

Shields is a our favourite villa when in Jamaica, whether we are staying on premises or at my parents home in Grange Hill-a trip to Shields is always a MUST! I was born and raised in Grange Hill- about half hour drive from Shields.I am currently living abroad. The food is authentic- not to mention our world famous Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee.I also would like to recommend Captain Charlie and crew -with his "Irie" glass bottom boat for rides;he can take you to the island also snorkling.Look out! Charlie will dive up Sea Cucumbers for you to observe, even lobsters too. When you go to the island with Charlie you can buy lobster and have it cooked right there-it's yummy! The staff at Shields have excellent customer service skills and they treat you like family with "nuff respect!"…

I love the shield. It was clean . the beach was close and my wife and i had a great time . The food was not up to par. The beach was clean . The drinks were expensive . They have a security guard working in the night for safety . Even thought its a little dated . I like how the staff tried to make us feel welcome.
