I swear I've never heard so many whinies. The Melia hotel (not of the Spanish Melia chain of hotels), is a family-run hotel, dated back to the 19th century. It's in the center of the city, across from the historic firehouse. Indeed, it's an old hotel, but it's kept up and is very well-run. We stayed there in May 2009,... more
Information from a credit card I used at the hotel was stolen during my stay. I used the particular credit card only at the Hotel Melia so either the information was stolen by the hotel staff or the hotel's security is very lax with regard to credit card information supplied by guests. The cleanliness of the hotel could also be... more
We stayed here for one night during a 5-day trip along the coast. Nice, but small rooms did the trick for us. Out our door we had a cool view of the surrounding mountains and the cute courtyard below. Enjoyed the history of the hotel and family that had run it. Staff was friendly and helpful when we arrived late... more
My husband and I just returned from a trip in which we spent two nights in Ponce at Hotel Melia. We stayed in room 314 that had a balcony facing the town square. That was the only good thing I can say about the place. No, I take that back, there was plenty of hot water. The rugs were so... more
Hotel Melia has "character" - we stayed in room 314 which has a balcony overlooking the square . Evening wine and cheese on the balcony was memorable. We had a car so drove to the local supermarket to buy wine and cheese etc. -very reasonable. There is a great bar opposite Hotel Belgica just across the square - great spot -... more
Stayed at the Melia for one night. I was ready to leave Ponce after an hour. City was dirty, lots of trash on the streets (and everywhere else people could dump it), lots of boarded up or abandoned stores and homes, lots of aggressive homeless. The rooms are dirty, tiny, and smelly. The only redeeming part of our stay was... more
I stayed at the Melia Ponce in July while attending the Caribe Gyn conference. I am not an MD but the company I work for was promoting a product to Ob-Gyn's attending the conference. I have to admit that I called American Express travel and, being told that the Ponce Hilton was sold out, promptly accepted their suggestion of a... more
This hotel is just nice and is very well located and very close to everything. The only thing that I didn't like about this place was the bathroom. They don't have AC and the are really hot. The rest is nice! I recommend this place! more
Based on prior reviews, I was a little skeptical of this hotel, but my husband had stayed here several years ago and had a positive experience. I have to say that overall, I was okay with the choice, but if left to my own devices I probably would not have picked the Melia. This is an OLD building with a... more
