Sandals Grande St. Lucian has changed in the last year. The company has started promoting group bookings which, in our recent experience, resulted in large a concentration of guests monopolizing common areas while exhibiting raucous behaviour. In addition, security on the beach was much more lax this year, individuals from the public beach on the north and other resorts on the south end were not stopped from walking through the Grande on the sidewalk. The staff at Grande St. Lucian is still amazing and are dealing with this new phenomenon very well - we have no complaints regarding how we were taken care of.

Hotel's Favourite
Just returned from a lovely week celebrating our 35th Anniversary. Wanted a picturesque location with nice rooms, delicious food, beautiful pools and grounds and enjoyable entertainment. Sandals Grande St Lucian provided all of that, and we left happy. I usually read the comments and reviews of the island and resort we heading to daily for about 6 months prior to arriving so I can get a good feel for what to expect. Most times, the reviews for Sandals are positive but I read the good and the bad. When I read many reviews from our UK cousins, they invariably devolve into criticism of North American guests. Noisy Americans, the place is too Americanized, shame about the Americans, the list goes on. We don’t expect an Americanized version of the destination we are travelling to. We fell in love with the Caribbean like most of you and wish it to retain its culture and beauty independent of American influence. The Arrival – Arrived on a packed Jet Blue Flight on 3 March, and Fast Track ushered us through immigration and customs and on to the Sandals Lounge. Had enough time for a quick soda and pack of shortbread cookies and then told the bus had arrived. Stood in line when it was our time to board was told the bus was full and they had procured a private car. It turned out to be a cramped Toyota with poor air conditioning and the ride took 3.5 hours due to traffic. This was due to ongoing construction and a car/motorcycle collision on route. Reception and the Room We were greeted warmly and offered a cocktail. I asked for a soft drink and it was presented within minutes. Check in was quick and friendly. We were escorted within 20 minutes of arrival to room 6116. a Caribbean Walkout Deluxe (WDL). The bed was decorated with Happy Anniversary, and a piece of cake was on the small table with a welcome packet. It was all we needed. We leave the room each morning at 7:00 am for breakfast and don’t return until its time to get ready for dinner. It looked out at a row of shrubbery semi-blocking the roadway to Pigeon Island and the tennis courts. We headed to Bayside for some French cuisine and then walked the entire property to get the lay of the land. Meals We breakfast buffet daily at Bayside each morning – good food and hardworking, professional friendly staff. For lunches we tried Bayside, Dino’s , Mariner’s , the Jerk Shack and Mariner. Food was all good but some of the staff was a little unfriendly. Understandable considering how hot those pizza ovens can get. For dinner, we ate at Bayside, Barefoot twice, Toscanini’s, Bombay, Soy and Gordon’s. Speaking of Gordon’s the dress code for men is long pants which I wore, only to see men arrive in shorts. It had a really nice view of the bay, and a cute little kitten named Gemma made her way from table to table. For deserts we tried Josephine’s for crepes and ice cream and The Pub once. Extras- We were offered a photo shoot and a 30 minute couple massage which we declined. Also booked the Sandals Select dinner but missed that on Tuesday night. We rented a cabana for a day on the beach and It was wonderful with 2 concierges, Mavrik and Aslan. Cost was 130.00 US from 9am through 5pm. Came with a cooler filled with beer and water, lunch delivery, a bottle of requested French sparkling for my wife, and any drink we could ask for from the bar. An enjoyable day and we tipped each concierge 25% of the cost. Also walked to Pigeon Island one morning and hiked to Fort Rodney with my wife. Great views and steeper than it looked. My wife then climbed Signal point alone while I stayed at the base catching my breath. The Beach - walked the short beach end to end multiple times a day. Just past the OTWB's is a small beach that leads to a fenced off pier belonging to the Landing. A small path covered in broken coral leads to a path but we did not try to take it. At the other end is Pigeon Island Public beach which we walked on. Guests from this beach also make their way down the Sandals beach including children, but security keeps a watchful eye on everyone. The entry to the ocean is eroded and has a slight incline which you have to step down into. The water is clear and the sand is firm. Anchored yellow floats are removed, sprayed down and returned every couple of days. Jet skis for a fee, kayaks, paddle boards and Hobie catamarans and water skiing all available. The Good - The employees, the pools, the landscaping, the meals, entertainment, and the warm ocean. The Peter special - regular for her, virgin for me. The Bad - The Loop paid us only lip service. Asked multiple times to have soda delivered to room. Only replenished once in 7-night stay. There were only 2 waters the final night left in the mini fridge. The Ugly The early morning chair game. Skipped it first morning and fried. Next morning up at 5:00am to stake out my spot. One morning sat next to a butler couple and we both had the same spot for two days until they decided they wanted my spot. Went for a walk only to come back and find my belongings gone and them in our spot. After we left for our walk, they had their butler send our personal belongings to the front desk and were smug about it, as was the butler manager who came over from water sports. Left a bad feeling about those guests and butler staff. Overall - Beautiful property, would return. Booked Sandals Barbados for next trip.

Sandals Grande in Saint Lucia's resort is beautiful and all the staff is extremely welcoming. I have plenty of people to mention and that I appreciate from our trip. I traveled with family, and without a spouse, so I was venturing around alone and talking with employees frequently. All the employees are very friendly, talkative, and welcoming, as long as you treat them with respect and love, they'll do the same. Entertainment and night-life was active, however, I would suggest karaoke every other night, if not every single night (only one night of the week), everyone loves drinking and singing together. There were a large variety of options from restaurants, activities, bars, pools, etc., plenty to keep entertained or just relax. Front desk area/spa - Wendy worked the Island Route front desk directly next to the main entrance. I would walk by a few times a day and always get a wave or hello with a smile from her. - Raequelle worked at the main front desk and was so nice to my family and I. She remembered all our names after our first time meeting. She was our host at the returning guest dinner - eating and talking with us throughout the night and we all enjoyed her company and personality. - Kareem and Sherville in the loyalty center were also both very accommodating, polite, and were always smiling. - Keturah gave me my first manicure ever. I had a really fun time talking to her and Madonna during the process. And she did a great job. I would talk to the staff at the spa desk every time I'd walk by and they were all so polite, funny, and helpful. Food and drink servers were constantly serving left and right and most people (guests) aren't as polite and appreciative as they should be. I have a few that were my favorite, made amazing drinks, and just had pleasant conversation with me every time I was with them. However, all the food/drink service staff is wonderful. - Kachel served my first drink the day we got there, and I kept going back to find her throughout the week because she was so sweet and made an amazing special drink. - Saskia & Tylus by the pool bars both were also great and I loved talking and hanging out with both of them all week - Deandra who I believe was training was also super sweet and nice to interact with all week, she worked in the pool bars and at the breakfast restaurant - Kevin, Remy, Matthew, Peter, Twixxy, Vinea, Egbert, and really everyone who worked at these bars was very friendly and helpful. - Sasha and Laurin at the Barefoot restaurant were both very sweet and we had good conversations with both. Diving/snorkeling - Rochelle was one of my favorite people I met. She pushed me to do the Soufriere dive by the Pitons and I saw a turtle just like she said I would :) I would go down to the aqua shop when I had nothing to do just to say hi and talk with Rochelle. - Michael, Ken, and Carola were also in the shop throughout the week and were very helpful and fun. Other employees - Melissa was friendly and happy to talk to - gave us hot sauce and rum samples by the pool and helped us in the gift shop - Tonya was also in the gift shop, very nice, and helped my mom get a palm tree decoration. - Tomica worked in entertainment - I asked her to do my karaoke song with me and she did, which I loved. - Everyone in entertainment was very sweet, energetic, and ran great activities, I just can't remember all the names. The housekeeping was perfect throughout the week also. Everything about this place is awesome, and the lovely staff is what makes it so great. I can't wait to come back some day and see all my friends again :)

Everything was as we would expect from Sandals. The service, food, beach, pool, watersports, amenities, room, etc. This was our fifth Sandals vacation. One notable exception stood out however, and rendered it less likely that we may travel to Sandals again. One big sell about Sandals is that one can tour another Sandals on the same Island. We always avail ourselves of this and looked forward to touring Sandals Halycon. On March 5th, Tuesday we planned on taking the 12 Noon bus. It arrived at 12:02 and the Bus Scheduler said 5 minutes. Then later he said ten minutes. Then he disappeared. At 12:30 we asked the front desk what was with the bus. The young lady called someone who informed her that the bus had come and gone. I said that the bus was still there out in front and that it had been there for a half an hour. Then the driver came. My wife and I and two other passengers were on that (full sized) bus. The driver, without a word, tore off right as I was boarding and before I reached a seat. I fell down. I am elderly and felt threatened. The driver then sped all the way to Sandals Halycon. Later, returning from Sandals Halycon the bus was 30 minutes late. 3:15 to 3:45. No explanation from anyone at the front desk, the driver, the bus scheduler, etc..

This was our first Sandals visit and having read the reviews I thought I would share our observations. First, the sunbed situation which gets a mention in quite a few reviews. It is quite ridiculous unfortunately - by 7:30 you have no chance by the pool (we heard people getting up at 6 to go and save their spot). You’ll have more luck on the beach but even then after 9 you’ll probably only get a bed without an umbrella. I’ve seen this mentioned in 5 star reviews as if it’s acceptable - maybe it is to some people but we go on holiday to not get up at 6! Many of the beds then just sit there with no guests for hours. The worst thing is there is loads of space for more beds and umbrellas around the pools and the beach. Unfortunately this alone will keep us from coming again. Food is decent, lunch offerings are mostly fast food dinner options on the whole pretty good - Gordon’s was good as was the Japanese restaurant. The breakfast was good - decent buffet and an omelette station. Drinks are okay, mainly geared towards the sweet end of the cocktail scale and the wine is fine if a little limited in choice. Overall 7 out of 10. All the staff were helpful and we never had any problems getting whatever service we needed. Some of the staff can be direct but it never impacts the quality of the help. We had a basic room overlooking the lagoon pool as we only sleep in it but it was clean and tidy, good linen and decent shower. The building as a whole is a little dated in places but overall very pleasant and the whole site and location is beautiful, as is St Lucia and we loved the catamaran trip which was fantastic. Lastly, the gym is not state of the art - perfectly useable and not atypical of a hotel but don’t expect what you see at the gym you pay for. Overall, we enjoyed the visit but the sunbed situation and the fact that it could be so easily be addressed will stop us returning and does leave a sense of complacency which you do sense in other areas which even though they are good, could be better without a big changes.

My wife and I had an amazing time at your St Lucian Grande resort. The place itself was really nice ,although you were doing roof work. What made our vacation extra special was the staff. Our room was 4116 and our cleaner was amazing. Your entertainment staff go way above and beyond to make sure we are enjoying our stay. They even invited us to lunch with them which was a wonderful surprise. We were made to feel like family even as we were leaving. I would just like to thank Vanessa, Deasia, Fenella, Abigail , Cessial and Neville for all your kindness ,energy, and hard work. I highly recommend Sandals Grande St Lucian! The people there are truly amazing! Thankyou.

The Grande has now slid its way into our top two resorts. Not only is it a great resort to be out on the water, but also we encountered so many friendly and helpful staff it just sealed the deal. To start we liked that this is one of the Sandals properties with the most water sports. That includes the usual kayaks, paddle boards and sailing, and also had windsurfing, water ski, kneeboarding and wake boarding. The roped in area for swimming was also nice with sea urchins and sea weeds too deep to have to worry about. As for staff, so many to name. Xaiver from the photo team took some great shots and was a delight. Avernelle served us at a couple of the restaurants, always with a smile. Jean Claude had the water sports area handled and Kevon (in training) was super friendly and took our kidding in stride. We had a couple of spa treatments where Kacy and Shrivonne took extra time to explain some of the great products, which we clearly had to take home with us. Hopefully all those names are spelled correctly. Again, there were so many. Some started a little aloof, but add in a self deprecating joke and they lightened up quickly. Add in a helicopter ride to the resort, a great country signer one of the nights, a zip line excursion, and a ferry ride back to the airport and it was one of the best trips we have taken. Nice work Sandals, you did it again and had us booking the next trip before we left, thanks to Kareem.

We were dissatisfied with the way we were treated here. The restaurants by the water had terrible service and rude wait staff. It wasn’t due the being busy and time you asked for something you got a nasty look and waited forever to get a dress no and sometimes we’d go get our own. It seemed maybe be there would be one friendly person like an English lady with dark short hair at the beach restaurants went out of her way to try to catch vet for all the rest of the staff. Same at bars. No smiles not kind words and no f your lucky you got Donald or Remy and be so blown away that someone was nice to you. Shouldn’t this be the norm? We ate at the pub and sat for 30 minutes when our food arrived they dumped our salads with the dinner all at once jammed onto a small table. They could have easily brought the salads prior but no one cares about your experience. Maybe because you got our money ahead there is no incentives to be welcoming. We were stopped over and over by other guests all complaining of rude poor service. Our hotel room was kept nicely so no complaints as far as the room staff goes. We will never go to a sandals again and we heard from many other guests saying the same. When you pay a lot of money and are made to feel like you’re inconveniencing everyone it doesn’t make for a good vacation. Asking for a coffee cup gives you a dirty look and sometimes no we don’t have any. I wish I had more good to say but these employees are not at all happy in their work or grateful for guests providing them with their salaries.

We would never go back to a sandals again. Very rude service and ignored at many restaurants especially at lunch places by the water area. Pretty much every restaurant we went to we ran into very unfriendly waitstaff. Nothing could make them smile. It’s difficult to enjoy your trip when you feel the environment is hostile. There were a few great service people, but should they all be great? Servers like Remy and Donald at the pool bar were exception and did triple the work the others did. There was an English lady with dark hair at the beach bar restaurant who really went out of her way to compensate for the others. We would sit for a very long time with no one serving us and when they did they’d take our order but not being our drinks until long after our food arrived. We felt like we were second class citizens. Won’t be back for sure our last visit here. There is some real staff problems and no one seems to be addressing it or care. On a positive note the rooms were kept up beautifully and they went out of their way to notice what we used and leave extra for us like water and orange juice. We are not fussy people and every guest we spoke to had the same thing to say as we did. Definitely need a supervisor to straighten out the mess. Maybe they feel they got our money so they don’t care, but I think the future sales are going to drop.
