We spent the day roaming around this lush green plantation-far from the tourist crowds and noisy cities of Saint Lucia. When the rain came down in droves we were invited into the French Colonial Plantation house for a coffee on the wrap around -supremely filmic, porch. I felt as if we had stepped back in time, although the German owners... more

We were utterly charmed from the second we arrived at Balenbouche. This elegant, ramshackle estate seeped with its treasures and history makes you feel like you have stepped into a timelessness that is a joy to explore. Running Balenbouche is an intelligent, passionate and gifted family (Utta & her two daughters Verena & Anitanja) whose hard work and dedication shines... more

The Balenbouche estate – it is beautiful, full of history, and lovely as described below. During the day and evening. Indeed the house and grounds are lovely and I was made to feel so welcome by the hosts and other guests staying at the Balenbouche during my stay. The food is very good, all beautifully home-made, tasty, and satisfying. The... more

I have always wanted to write a review of Balenbouche, as I have never forgotten my stay there, even though it was only for a few days. The house and grounds are gorgeous, the hosts are wonderfully nice, the food is excellent, and they can provide vegetarian meals. I fell in love with their dogs, who made me feel right... more

With Balenbouche it does seem to be a case of "horses for courses". The web-site sums it up quite clearly in its "Is Balenbouche for you?" section. True, there are insects and other creepy crawlies and the mossie nets take some tethering down; true, restaurants are few and far between in this part of the island (go to Debbie's when... more

We stayed for a week at Balenbouche in January before driving up to the very different touristic experience of Cap Estate in Rodney Bay. Balenbouche has an incredibly rich heritage, initially starting off at 2000 (!) acres a century ago but now down to 74 acres and run virtually single-handed by Uta the very charming and clearly stressed-out owner. It's... more

My fiancé & I chose Balenbouche Estate for our destination wedding, pretty much based on the sparkling reviews we saw here. Balenbouche Estate (namely Uta, Verena and Anatanja, who run it) exceeded all our expectations and made our wedding and our stay in St. Lucia simply incredible. We brought with us a group of 17 (staying at Balenbouche), plus 17... more

The Balenbouch Estate is simply the most beautiful place on earth. The private villas are beautifully appointed and everything is open air. The outdoor shower is an incredible experience. Uta, Verena, and Anitanja are wonderful hosts. The food is the most incredible I've ever eaten. The dogs, cat, birds, turtles, cows, and lizards make it a place for animal lovers.... more

Balenbouche Estate. We have visited St.Lucia many times & on one trip I said to a St.Lucian friend of ours 'Do you know anywhere exclusive, secluded, peaceful, off the beaten track & near the sea, that would suit us 'He said after some thought, 'I know of such a place down South in the island, an Old Sugar Estate &... more

If you are the type of traveler who selects your accommodations by the number of stars it rates or who might be annoyed by the occasional Anole lizard in your living quarters, then pass on this review. However, if you are looking for an authentic Caribbean Island experience that is unique from the cookie cutter offerings of the all- inclusive... more
