Just returned from our third trip to this property on the Boardwalk in Philipsburg May 2-16. We once again stayed in the new building. 3 suites per floor on 4 floors. View is of Great Bay Beach and lovely. Huge rooms with huge bathroom. King bed, couch, flat screen TV. Impeccably cleaned every day. Can't say enough about the staff... More

I didn't stay at the hotel but had a delicious, wonderful and lengthy breakfast here two days in a row. If I were to book my trip again, I'd stay here for the decor and ambiance alone. It has a rustic charm and the food was amazing.

We did not stay at the hotel - but used the restaurant. A boutique Hotel and Restaurant. This comfortable restaurant has a view over the beach and the cruise ship docks and provides both inside and alfresco dining. The menu provides a good choice and the dishes we had were excellent and fairly priced. A very nice location for dinner.... More

We stayed at the Pasanggrahan Royal Guesthouse 4/30/13 - 5/6/13. It is a charming hotel in the middle of Philipsburg between the boardwalk and Front Street. We were in Room #403, a suite in the new building, The room was large, clean and comfortable with a great view. Daily maid service. Hotel guests were allowed to use the beach chairs/... More

Spent the week and it was great. The hotel is old but it gave us a true feel of the island. The location and the price is great. Janet at the outside bar was great along with the entire staff. The food was also great.

This was our first visit to the newly constructed side of the Pasanggram Guest House. It has hot water and air conditioning that actually works extremely well! However....there are tiny things that still need to make these accommodations rate as a first-class resort. It is the things such as: all handles attached to dressers, toilets not leaking, and staying bug... More

We just returned from our second stay at the Pasanggrahan on the Dutch side of St. Maarten. It was like staying with dear, old friends. Once again, the rustic rooms were immaculately clean and very comfortable. Janet, the best bartender in St. Maarten and probably the Caribbean, greeted us with warm hugs and ice cold beers. A welcome fit for... More

Stayed here a few years ago and it was wonderful. Having the fabulous restaurant on site was delish and convenient. We were meeting family here prior to a Barefoot Windjammer Cruise (that shows how long ago this was). Was a perfect start to our trip!!!

This is one of the best stays you could opt for in St. Maarten when you are on a budget... This hotel faces the ocean and it's in the heart of the action... shopping shopping and more shopping... It also has a lot of restaurants if you would chose to indulge somewhere else rather eat at the hotel... but one... More

My husband and I were traveling to St Barts in early October. Landing in St Martin, we awaited our transfer via winnair. Rafael, later a hurricaine, was causing weather problems though, so our little flight was cancelled. Quickly grabbing a cab, we hurried to the marina to catch the last ferry of the day in Phillipsburg aboard the Great Bay... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
"The Pasanggrahan Royal Guesthouse is St. Maarten's oldest and most charming inn. Formerly a rooster farm, Governor's home, V.I.P. guest house, and Dutch Royal Residence, it is ideally located in Philipsburg on a white sand beach amidst enchanting tropical gardens and enclosed within its original stone walls: a green oasis hidden on Front Street. A national landmark and one of the last bastions of West Indian culture, the Pasanggrahan is secluded and offbeat in the heart of St. Maarten’s capital, and it's a minute's stroll to shops, restaurants, casinos, banks and other institutions and activities. This authentic, colonial style inn has all the special features of a larger hotel including concierge service, the Sidney Greenstreet Bar, boardwalk beach bar, complementary chaise lounges, beach towels, and social hour. “A special place for special people” General Information"This vintage West Indian-style guesthouse has a prime spot on the beach in Philipsburg, sandwiched between the busy, narrow main street of Philipsburg and the harbor. It's set back and shaded under tall trees, a charming relic from another time. In fact, this was once the summer home of the Dutch Queen Wilhelmina, and the interior has a gracious, late-19th-century feel, with peacock bamboo chairs, Indian spool tables, and a gilt-framed oil portrait of the Dutch queen. The small- to medium-size accommodations have queen-size, double, or king-size beds with four-poster designs; some are in the main building and others are in an adjoining annex. The finest have genuine colonial flair, with antique secretaries and four-posters swaddled in mosquito netting, madras valances, hand-stitched quilts, beamed ceilings, and still life paintings. Set among lush palms is the harborfront Pasanggrahan Restaurant, which specializes in fresh fish caught by the hotel's own deep-sea charter fishing boat and family-style dinners. ... more   less
