La Residence is a delightfully unpretentious and whimsical hotel. Ok, so I'm young and I don't stay in 4-star places very often, but La Residence has charm coming out of its ears! The owners are very typically (stereotypically?) French and just perfectly crusty. The breakfast is anything but your standard continental - they served madeleines on Sunday, for crying out loud! I mean, really! How cute is that? The coffee is great, the resto is sublime, the decorating is sensational for such a small hotel. The view is not so great, but you close the curtains and snuggle up to whomever you're there with and it's better (and isn't that the whole point?!). It was impeccably clean (and I notice these things) and the service was bar-none (to the point where the concierge got me Q-tips from his own home because my fiance had an ear infection and no pharmacies were open). THAT's service. We are going back this weekend for our third stay. Why aren't you there yet??! :) more
