Virgin Gorda is amazing. Absolutely amazing.
We flew into St. Thomas, then took the ferry to the island. This method of arrival, while beautiful, did have a little hassle involved. You have to take a taxi from the St. Thomas airport to the ferry docks, at a cost of $10 per person. The first ferry then goes to Tortola, where you go through customs because this is the point where you're leaving the US. Hop back on the ferry and you end up at Virgin Gorda. Total time elapsed from plane to island - 3 hours. Total cost: $50 per person (taxi + ferry).
We stayed in town, at Bayview Apartments. It is just a two minute walk from the Yacht Harbor, where you can find a grocery store, shops, ATM machine, and restaurants. The apartment itself was very spacious and comfortable, and the building is nestled in a private screen of coconut palms and tropical plants. It's very secluded even though it's right in town.
