1829 is situated on Government hill, across the street from the Governors's office and overlooking Charlotte Amelie. Drinks at the lobby bar are good and fairly priced and its a great place to meet other island visitors or socialize with the staff. The afternoon/evening guy, Wade I believe,  was great, he even drove us out to some of the area... More

This hotel is in the centre of Charlotte Amalie, it does have lots of steps up to the door and Tony did carry out cases, and also up to our rooms which was up lot of stairs!! Rooms basic but a great restaurant next door and close to downtown so no need for a taxi. Pool was outside our room... More

We stayed at the Hotel 1829 for one night, as we flew to St. Thomas and were traveling the next to the British Virgin Islands via ferry. We had to climb multiple flights of stairs to get to our room and did not receive help with our luggage. The stairs were outdoors and slippery after it rained. The room was... More

We spent four nights in St Thomas at 1829. The room was good--clean but small. That being said, the bed was comfortable and it was all we needed. What we really liked about 1829 were the people. Tony was amazing. He answered all of our questions, was attentive to our needs and generally great to talk to (He also mixed... More

We stopped in at the bar after walking the "99 steps". The bar tender was making the Blackbeards Revenge drink which is a concoction of 5 rums and a little juice. Wow was it good

I really didn't explore a whole lot here. I just peeked into the bar, snapped a few pictures until I realized a worker got in my way. She came out of nowhere and gave me a stern look. I apologized, showed her I removed the picture and we have a chat for 5 minutes. All was well. The view from... More

Hotel smotel. Forget it. It is the bar at 1829 that defines this place. Historic to beat the band. And Michael, the mixologist will whip you up a rum drink to suit your fancy. His recommendation of Caribe next door was fantastic. It is a Chaine des Rotisseurs place and is worthy.

My husband and I were in the islands in December. We stayed on St. John in a house for most of our stay but decided to spend our last night on St. Thomas. We wanted to explore St. Thomas and be close to the airport for our departing flight. We made our way over without reservations figuring we would be... More

Upon returning from our sailing charter in the BVI, we checked in to a most charming, historic Inn. The Hotel 1929 is easily the most unique hotel this traveler has ever had the pleasure to visit! The views are spectacular. The huge amber waterfall and the hotel bar are must-see's! The location is perfect, too. A two minute walk and... More

This was a perfect location to attend carnival events in the downtown area. Everything is walking distance. The hotel accommodations were more than adequate. Clean, quite adequate but small rooms. The hotel and its surroundings are a pleasant glimpse into the past for sure compared to modern day resorts. Many steps are a guarantee, either be in good shape to... More
