The pictures online do look a lot more exotic than the actual place but its got unmistakable charm. We stayed in Room 7 our first and only night in st. thomas before heading to st. john. judging from the reviews, we really lucked out on the room. I thought it was perfect. it was large and cavernous with a very... more

We traveled to St. John for a weeklong stay at Maho Bay Camps. To make our return trip less hurried, and to see another spot, we decided to stay in Charlotte Amalie for a night. We decided on the Hotel 1829. The group traveling was me and my husband (in our 40's) and our two daughters, aged 9 & 11.... more

I always stay at the 1829 when I go to St. Thomas. My first stay was in 1984 and it has been my favorite on St. Thomas since. This hotel gets my highest rating, but it isn't for everyone. There are no phones in the rooms. I think I've seen every room in the hotel and they're all unique. But... more

We traveled to St. John in December and flew into St. Thomas late at night. Since we couldn't get a ferry at that time to St. John, we booked a night (upon recommendation from Caneel Bay Resort in St. John) at Hotel 1829. The hotel is old (hence the name-1829) and small, with a lot of character; exactly what we... more

Husband and I loved the place when we stayed in October on a Tuesday night in the room at the top of the exterior stairs with a king size bed. That night was $130. I just booked for Feb. 18th, a Monday and it cost $237! It was the last room available so I hope I am getting the big... more

This hotel was right in the shopping district of charlotte amalie next to main street. The breakfast place inside has a view out of this world. After staying in the smallest room in the world for 2 nights and not sleeping very well, the view in the morning of the charlotte amalie harbor still put us in a good mood.... more

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. When we got to the room, we were shocked at the size. It barely fit the two of us and our bags. There were also small bugs on the bed (we stayed in St. Thomas for 5 nights - there were no bugs at the other hotels!). Although many of the buildings... more

place looks far better on the web site than in real life. the rooms were a bit old and tatty with holes in the walls etc. for $189 a night you'd expect better. its pretty cental for Charlottle-A though but the main issues was the miserable, miserable staff. I didnt see a smile of one of them in 2 days!... more

Hotel 1829 is a nice little spot to stay a night or two if you find yourself in St. Thomas and you're keen on old world charm. It's not a resort hotel and it's not on the beach, but this place is warm and friendly with a decent view of Charlotte Amalie harbor. Several friends of mine were staying at... more

We spent 6 nights at 1829 and it was simply a fantastic time. This is a hotel that oozes character, does not conform to the typical "chain" format of glass/chrome/mirrors, but gives it's guests a unique opportunity to stay in a truly historic building. Yes, the showers may be a bit weak, and maybe the stonework does leave a bit... more
