First of all, pack light! We were at Maho Bay Camps for 7 full days and all you really need for basic supplies are: a few pairs of swim trunks/swim suits, a few light shirts, bathroom supplies, flashlights/headlamp, sandals (would recommend crocs due the amount of walking you will be doing), hiking shoes/boots, bug spray, and sunblock. When you arrive... More

We stayed in the Harmony Studio part of Maho Bay Camp from Jan 29-Feb05 and had a great vacation. The Studio has got the essentials: a king size bed, small kitchenette (do you like cooking on a camp stove indoors?), table and chairs, small fridge and a very small sink. The highlight is the private bathroom with solar heated water.... More

We just returned from our third annual January trip to Maho Bay Campgrounds. We love the simpleness ... the living amoung nature and fresh air with nothing between us, the elements (mostly warm and sunny, this year with some rain) and the iguanas, birds, etc. We spend the day snorkeling and reading, the evenings socializing at dinner with new found... Pack a sun shower!!! (REI has them) and make sure you fill it up every morning (and leave in a sunny spot). Need to save a few bucks?..pack cereal for breakfast, packs of tuna for lunch, and a loaf of bread (or wraps). we brought PB&J too. Pack munchies (granola bars, nuts) from home. Buy blocks of ice at the... More

This place was two steps above camping out, but plainer than a motel. Sui generis, it owns the category of grown-up treehouse. The four-room tent cottage had a kitchen, bedrooms and deck. Electricity, yes; water, nearby. Because of the site's brilliant planning and surgical placement of lodging, the camp was set into the wooded hillside at a spotless beach with... More

We're a couple from Norway who decided to get as far away as we could. We ended up at Maho Camps, St. John - And had the best time ever! Our Studio apartment was a long walk away from the beach, but it was really worth it! We went swimming and Kayaking, ate a whole lot of grilled fish ;)... More

Over the last 20 years this is our third trip to Maho and fifth overall to St. John. We have been to a number of other Caribbean islands - The DR, The Cayman Islands, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Several spots in Mexico, Costa Rica and Belize. The snorkeling on St. John beats them all. Please read lots of other comments... More

Just back from a terrific Christmas trip to Maho Bay Camps, and I have some tips to help you pack: 1. There are no drawers in the tents to put things in--you can pile clothes in the "kitchen" on shelves, or hang things on the few hooks around the tent...so, better to bring less. You'll be in a bathing suit... More

Spent two nights at Harmony Studios which is part of Maho Bay. It was definitely worth the little bit of extra money. No only were the buildings newer, but I had my own bathroom versus sharing a communal one. While the hike up to the cabin from the beach was a bit of a trek, the views were totally worth... More

Make no mistake, this is camping, but with all the equipment and ammenities you'll need for a comfortable stay. It's difficult to categorize this level of accommodation - you're in permanent tents and you have shared baths (like a campground), but you also have a restaurant, store, and planned activities (like a resort). I wasn't sure what to make of... More
