During our honeymoon 12 years ago my wife and I were on a cab that was dropping campers off at Maho Bay and we thought how neat it would be to camp in such a beautiful place--the warm sunshine, blue skies, and gorgeous beaches. All of this is there. I am an experienced backpacker and have been camping at high... more

Ah Maho Bay Camps! Returning after 20 years we weren’t sure if we were going to be into navigating the stairs, sleeping with the bugs, and being so far from town. When we first came to St. John we were in our early twenties, hard and strong. We came for the simplicity and the low cost. Today we are in... more

I read all the reviews of Maho Bay and thought I knew what to expect and what I was getting into. Some things were true and did not bother me one bit. Yes - there are LOTS of stairs, no A/C, lizards in room, community bathrooms. I was totally fine with all that. Some things I read I did not... more

This place is wonderful for those who don't need room service and all the bells and whistles of an overpriced resort to experience the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. I have been to Maho Camps twice, and plan on returning for years to come. Travel to St. John via St Thomas may seem to deter people, but I can... more

I'm all about the environment and "green", so I was very excited about this. I was disappointed. They are doing some good things, and I very much appreciate that. But, green doesn't mean your bathroom should smell like urine (we stayed in the Harmony suites for 2 nights, then the tents for one. I preferred the tents- at least you... more

My husband and I were married on Big Maho Beach on Saturday May 16th, 2009. We chose Maho because we fell in love with the camp years ago and wanted our guests to have the same experience. When we lived on St. Thomas we would go to St. John and Maho for weekend getaways. Maho was a great choice! We... more

First trip to Maho. Overall, it was a good experience, better than what I expected after reading some of the reviews. Our cabin was located in the middle of the hillside, so the steps were not too bad (118 to the beach). As others have said, be pre-advised that this is NOT a hotel, so...don't compare it to one. Cabins... more

Like some others I had read some pretty negative reviews of the Maho Bay camps before my trip with four of my friends - rats?? where?? Maybe someone confused an iguana with a rat?. I have nothing negative to say about my stay at Maho. Yes, there are steps, but I found them to be very safe and great exercise!... more

One would think somewhere in their literature Maho Bay Eco-Resort would mention cold water showers and hundreds of dangerous unlighted steps one must use to go anywhere! I felt sorry for the elder visitors trying to be brave about the difficult steps and those with physical problems and people struggling with children and luggage. It wasn't fun. Terribly uncaring attendants... more

Our family of 4 (with 2 young boys age 4 and 7) stayed at Maho Bay during the kids' spring break. It was wonderful! I had read some negative reviews recently and I was a little worried- someone said that there were rats but we never saw any- just geckos, hermit crabs, iguanas, etc. Not many bugs at all either-... more
