Detailed Reviews
Stayed here for a couple of nights. This is a lovely old pub with some tables set in little nooks. The food was lovely and presented well. Breakfast was fantastic. The room was a good size and clean although there was a little bit of dust and cobwebs around but the carpet was well hoovered. Tea and coffee facilities topped up daily and bed remade. If you like to stay in a place where you are left in peace and quiet then this is the place for you. The bar staff were attentive and we didn’t have to wait long to give our order or have our plates cleared. I have gluten intolerance and I was well catered for and chef was very considerate of this, remembering this when preparing food. Cost of room was reasonable too. Will return.

We sat outside and enjoyed fish and chips here this week. The food was excellent with generous portions, and excellent tartare sauce. A good couple of real ale options. Outside space could have done with a bit of a clean up and the tables needed a wipe down, which did happen second time of asking, but overall it was a very nice lunch stop.

After rallying around various pubs in the area to find everyone had stopped serving food, I visited this pub yesterday afternoon and although it was very late in the day, the lovely staff rustled up a lovely burger & amazing chips which came with yummy coleslaw and corn on the cob. Lovely quiet country pub and very reasonably priced. Thank you so much guys!

Whether it was due to being understaffed with only one lady serving food, taking orders, drinks and bringing to tables, but we found her most unwelcoming. No greeting or smile when we arrived or paid. She did ask if the if everything was ok (which it was), when taking plates away, rather than during meal. Sadly this person (owner?) needs to get some customer service training and fast.
The food was all very good so it is such a shame that we don't feel we want to go back due to the attitude of this one person.

One of the friendliest pubs I’ve been to, great family feel. The landlady and landlord go above and beyond to help and take the time to talk to you, the food was beautiful and plenty of it, and live entertainment from a great band. The room was comfortable and I slept like a log after a fantastic day/ evening. Would deffo recommend to any one wanting to escape and enjoy a night away.

Great hosts, very friendly. We loved the fact we could go straight onto the terrace with our coffee. Unfortunately we couldn't sample the menu as we were on a tight schedule, but it looked and smelled lovely. We had the breakfast which was fabulous! We will definitely stay again and eat and drink in their lovely pub, thanks so much The Bell 😁

Room Tip: More toilet roll, a spare should always be in room and not enough bath towels, but to be honest...

I last reviewed this pub 3 years ago and it is now under new ownership - this time I stayed overnight. Importantly, because my other reviews include very expensive upmarket places - this is not 'boutique accommodation' (you can get that in Devizes - Peppermill - at an inflated price, you can also get standard and average hotel accommodation which will cost more - if you really want to go upmarket - go to The Daggers - but don't expect a warm welcome or good food - my subjective opinion of course); and it is not a gastro-pub. But.
The Bell is a traditional country pub - and yes, it needs an update, but thank goodness it is not yet one of those formulaic stripped wood/stone floor and contrived 'old' décor places, that are generally eating places pretending to be proper pubs. This pub is comfortable and everyone is friendly - the bar staff can't do enough to help, and the owner Mike will do his utmost to ensure you enjoy the food and your stay. That food was really good - not too basic (eg pork in wine and pepper cream sauce) and freshly cooked using locally sourced produce - the owner is a qualified chef and it shows. Breakfast was excellent - freshly cooked lovely bacon and sausages (no catering pack here) etc. Cooked to order whenever you want it - no 9.30 time limit!
I stayed in the double room which had a standard double bed which I think too small for two people - and again, décor is dated - but it's fine and the room and ensuite are scrupulously clean. The bed (for one) was amazingly comfortable, and there was ample tea, coffee, biscuits, bottled water for free. Wifi free and fast enough.
I was a single female traveller and felt really welcome and comfortable here - for the price, it was excellent - I really recommend it.

We didn't stay in the B&B, but had heard about The Bell Inn through some reviews and thought we'd give it a go and try Sunday lunch there with friends. It was quite simply brilliant. Echoing the other Trip Advisor reviews, nothing was too much trouble. The service was excellent - friendly and well-informed. We were running late and called to let Gary know; he was very obliging and said it wa no problem. The food was something else... Just not at all what you expect from pub grub for such good prices. I had the goats cheese tart followed by roast beef, my boyfriend had the pâté and steak and our friends had the pâté and pork belly and Arbroath smokey followed by shoulder of lamb. We were actually arguing about whose was the best (we each believed ours to be the superior meal)! The wine list is good and they've a good selection of local ales as well. All in all a brilliant pub and not a bad word to say, other than that it's not next door to my house!! We'll be back :)

We stayed for one night as a stopover on the Ridgeway walk and found it very comfortable with extremely helpful management. Though our twin room was quite small it was furnished and fitted to a high standard. The menu (bar or restaurant) was varied and the standard was very high with reasonable prices. Local beers enhanced our stay!

The Bell Inn is everything other reviewers have stated. Gary and Lou were most welcoming and friendly, and the village is very pretty ~ walk up the hill behind the pub to see the church and the distant view beyond. Evening meals were great and freshly cooked; breakfast was fresh as well, but we might have appreciated some more toast. If we are in Wiltshire again we will be back.
